The BEST SUV! What Makes the Lexus GX470 Unstoppable?

I have a 2004 LX 470 with 250,000 miles and a 2006 Sequoia with 235,000 miles. They are so easy to work on, super comfy, and the 2UZ-FE engine is dead reliable.

You can tell that car's been taken care of . Those are usually not the ones you see for sale sadly.

I have two 470s. One has 334k and the other has 221k. I daily them during the week and off-road on the weekend. They are beasts!

I’ll take my qx80 over this. Once they started building them in Japan they are just as good as this in my opinion.

Good timing, just posted my first Lexus podcast with my son's car over 200,000 miles. It got vandalized twice this month but still runs good.

In Japan that's the Land Cruiser Prado. I want to get one of those with the intercooled diesel. Any concerns getting a right hand drive JDM version? Other than I don't need RHD. That is no "faux" wood. Lexus in these years and earlier used REAL wood. The quality of it in its class is almost unmatched.

My wife's 13 year old RX has never had 1 repair and it's at 140k miles. I'm guessing it never will need one. We won't keep it forever, too boring to drive.

The only bad thing with these is the air suspension going bad and its expensive to fix so i put coil springs on it.

I am either going to buy an old GX470 or Highlander. It's crazy the value these older Toyota vehicles are.

These trucks have proven to continue to be reliable at high mileage and almost 20 years old. Impressive.

I’ve got a 2000 Honda CRV with 383k miles and still runs solid and gets 25 miles per gallon. Solid vehicles!

I bought my 2008 GX470 in 2015 with 85k miles. Currently at 241k miles. I tow a 3500 lb travel trailer quite a bit. I've had to replace the radiator, the air bag, the heat exchanger (a horrible job, tons of labor), a front axle, and now I need rear shocks. Brake rotors chronically warp after a few thousand miles. So its been good but not great. The biggest detractor is the low mpg: 17 highway, 10 towing.

Im just glad the 470 craze is over. I still see people trying to sell their overpriced 470s going on 2 years now. I searched and searched for one for months a little over a year ago. Test drove 3 different clean ones at around the $15k mark. I never got this notion of how they feel like "tanks". But I also come from the truck side of things. I just never drove one and was like yea this is it. Wasnt for me I guess, ended up getting a 2500hd gmc with the 8.1 that is very clean. Love it

Are these not prone to exhaust manifold cracking like the V8 4Runners?

I have a Prado 120 (same model as the Lexus), amazing with 370 thousand KM

07 4runner with the 4.7 here.. 245k and not a drip anywhere. My wife hates the wizard videos because she has a 2017 acadia. Told her b4 she got it that it's a bad idea. I'd take the 4runner cross country b4 her acadia. Better gas mileage than her acadia too!

My parents GX 05 they bought as their retirement car has 17k…. 17 thousand miles. Just sits in the garage under the cover.

Ride nice? I have ridden in these many times. Lots of unsprung weight vibration. I cannot fathom how people can like the ride of these. Acadia rides so much better with its independent suspension.

I would guess if a car has 600,000 miles on it. It has been very well maintained. So maybe?

If a seller is not willing to let you take the car to a mechanic, you know they just saved you a big headache. Thank them sincerely.

No "faux" wood in a Lexus. All real wood and made for Lexus by the Yamaha music division.

Literally just recommended a 2020 GX 460 for my dad. He's looking at Durangos and Ford SUV's (Explorer, Aviator, etc)...

He wants something that can last 150k to 200k. Issue is... those aren't really guaranteed to do that many miles without risk of substantial repair. Fords have cam phaser/timing issues; all engines. Dodge V8 Hemi has issues with lifters/cam lobes. V6 is better, but not perfect (probably the most reliable of the bunch)

Lexus 4.6l V8... immortal. 6-speed... a rock crusher. 4WD system; maybe some fluid changes?

It's such a shame American manufacturers make their vehicles to go 100k miles... but then afterwards... eh; maybe?

Terrible video. In the rest of the world this was called the Land Cruiser. Toyotas have gotten horrible since they moved manufacturing to Mexico and began using cheap Chinese parts.

Statistically, GM and Ford trucks and SUVs with V8 engines are the long lasting gasoline vehicles on Earth.
