UPDATE. I use both and like both. The app on the LifX is super-improved. It pulled even with the Hue-big time. It immediately opens to the last window that was being used. The timer set up and display is really well done and easy to read. also feel that the LifX do go brighter and keep stronger color intensity than the Hue. Better deep greens with the LifX as well.

will LIFX work with just the app no wifi?

Worth noting that wifi bulbs will eventually require a hub (in the form of a new wifi router) as most wifi routers cant handle more than 20 or so wifi connections

Now the hue doesn’t require a bridge for basic use. You can connect with Bluetooth and Alexa without a bridge or hub, but you may not get to use all the apps available. It’s very easy to set up though, but you have to be in the same room with your phone to control by the Bluetooth app.

That's 15 minutes to set up the Hue hub vs 5 minutes for each Lifx bulb. Does that mean it will take 5 minutes for every subsequent Lifx bulb or can they find each other? The hub makes adding extra bulbs easy, but never fancied having to type in my WiFi key for every bulb I'd need.

Judging by the colors themselves- which brand has deeper more saturated colors all the way?
In other words, which brand fills up the room with fuller, more saturated colors? Lifx? Or Philips hue?

Problem with LifX, the light stops responding semi-frequently for a significant amount of time. Likely some server side updates.

I got a question: Is it a Phillips Hue Bridge per bulb or per light set?

If your lights are hooked up to a switch on the wall are you able to shut them off and turn them on by the switch on the wall

Just wanted to reiterated what a well summarised comparison and great video. Definitely worth a subscription. Only thing I would add to the comparison next time is the lighting and contrast between the two. Otherwise, on point review, thank you!

If you are going to all out with smart lights, and have 100 other devices using Wi-Fi. Then I could justify Hue price tag over Lifx.

Got my whole place outfitted with hue with a variety of their products. It's very intuitive and reliable, the light is plenty bright, and the 3rd party apps add a lot of fun to the mix. Is it cheap? NO. Is it worth it? That's subjective, but I've geeked out on this stuff most of my life and I prioritize the "feel" of home living. Making it fun is so rewarding, plus... LED... still saves money, but yeah, the bulbs are brutally expensive. YES.... you want the hub. Only thing I might dock it for is the limitation of rooms / zones. I believe it was 4 maximum at the time, regardless of 50+ light bulbs being supported on a single hub. I have a 3 bed / 2 bath place with main area and stairwell. It would be nice to have 5+ separated zones if possible. Right now I've had to get creative with light setups within each zone. (double clicks on the light switch controllers to move lights to the next option I want).

Does anyone lives in a quiet big house, and find having problem connecting with hue hub? Do you need to get extra hubs?

Having bought bulbs and strips for both the Lifx and Hue systems, it was immediately apparent to me that I am in fact... a Lifx man. Their lights fill the room with vibrant and wildly customizable colors. The strip is gorgeous especially when displaying multiple colors. Full intensity white is BRIGHT! No connection issues to report yet. I wanted to like it but the light from the Hue barely hit the ceiling from the bed. Very muted in comparison and not nearly as poppin' phresh.

Im still torn. I have google/ next hubs in my house and really want the ease of use that phillips offers, but I love that the lifx is brighter and the colors, to me seem to stand out better.

I've been using the Lifx system for a while. They recently changed their app which angered users. It's even less intuitive and now their Google play store rating has dropped to 2.4. The Lifx system is great if you only want one or two smart bulbs in your home as you don't need to buy the bridge, but the Philips hue system is better as a whole home solution. If your router is on one side of the house I've had issues with lifx bulbs on the other side of the house getting a signal. I've also had issues with having to constantly re-add lifx bulbs in the app as family members who turn them on and off at the switch all the time seems to reset the bulbs. I personally will be upgrading to the Philips hue system so I can install the hub in a central location and install smart switches. The Philips hue system has a wealth of other accessories that lifx doesn't have.

Great video. Does Lyfx have or are they considered making a sync box for TVs so the colors change with the picture ?

at the end of the video you act like these are the only two options, like theres not dozens out there for a fraction of the cost with the same functionality and ease of use.

There are many people who report minor connection issues with LifX, this should be touched, along with accessories. As great LifX is (brighter, more saturated colours), I do not think they have any accessories (light switch, motion sensors etc). For some people, those motion sensors are important.

Lovely presentation. You gained a new subscriber.

One nitpicky criticism: You did not go into the security aspects of either bulb. Like, is the LIFX initial setup encrypted? When doing remote control, where does the control connection go for Hue, where does it go for LIFX? Is there multi user support? Security matters. :)

The bridge is a positive thing. It gives you much more of a reliable connection and puts less congestion on your network.
