My grandparents bought a new house in the late 60’s. Their house and a few next to them all had foundation issues because the hills behind the houses drain water to the small backyards. The houses should never have been allowed to be built there.

Patching a crack on the ceiling does not seem like doing it right.

Its desert out here its not uncommon for the foundation to sink. You get lucky when a house is built out here. That doesn’t sink plus it’s the builders too.

I am looking to buy a home in AZ, south of Tuscon. 2 builders, Centex & Lennar, have almost identical floor plans. Probably have the same parent company.
Hope the realtor can advise which builders to avoid.
I saw the same kitchen floor plan in AZ that I do in tis video, a kitchen island, with a sink. Why put a sink on the island ?

You don't get what you ecpect you get what you inspect.

Those companies do not care because they are still doing it to this day. It is a trend.

Business in 21st century America is nothing but scams. Where did American ingenuity and quality go? It's insane that the build is this bad. Seems very few companies have integrity now.

They hire undocumented workers with little to zero experience. Cheapest materials money can buy. Than charge several hundred thousand

Another house comes to my mind and that was a MCmansion next to my sister house that was built over a small creek. What a disaster that was, but it kept getting resold time and again. She told me that the entire first floor deck framing and sub flooring was covered in mold, and it sounded like a small jet engine was in the basement with all the commercial dehumidifiers running.

I'm a retired carpenter, I framed for 14yrs and then went into commercial concrete work. One thing I noticed in Vagas home construction that I saw from the road, was its hack and slash framing. When I was framing and we were doing condo or apts it was hack and slash, my aunt bought a condo in a devolvement that took years to build and the developer was all ways having to find new framing crews and sometimes I'd be on a new crew and we would get called to go do repairs on these condos and it was a nightmare. It was so bad that i refused to do it anymore . Back to my aunts condo, that was in this project, I went there to look at her stairs going from 1 to 2 floor and there 3/4in out of level, and I know why. The carpenters would build 10 sets of stairs out on the sawhorses and then have some kids set the stairs in a mad rush, and they be 3/4in out of level. We all ways check the stairs for level, it takes 2 sec, but once its all dry walled, its not possible to fix it properly. the drywall finishers were just as bad, no corner bead was used, and her garage floor cracked and heaved a good 8 inches. I rigged the stairs for her and tried not to point anything else that was F/Ued. the builder didn't want to pay what us carpenters were making and most of the crews he used were from the south so long story short, most of the time you get what you pay for Framing houses was a little different. Some carpenter crews took great pride in their work, while others would tell me that he's not getting paid enough to do the job right, crowning joist, using the right number of nails on a connection ECT ECT. We even built houses on basement walls that had frozen after being poured.

So you decided to build a home in the middle of a pandemic. Your shocked that the material was sub-par. I remember everyone having staffing issues. I remember random things being back ordered. I remember many companies doing what ever they could to save their business. I would have to say your timing was horrible! But you got a good interest rate. Too bad the home isn't going to last as long as the loan.

More immediately than a collapse in the stock or real estate markets, inflation directly impacts people's standard of life. It is hardly surprising that the present market attitude is so negative. If we are to live in this economy, we are in dire need of assistance. ETF and stock markets are still unpredictably volatile, just like the housing market. My $370,000 portfolio has been reduced to rubble.

Same thing happend to us in Vegas. They built those homes so fast and so cheap.

This is why I don't buy new build. Buy something that's been built already so you don't have to be the guinea pig

That's because new homes nowadays are throw away homes. They're not built to last. Use low quality materials and that's what happens

I’ve bought a new build house from a mega builder. I never expected it to be of the same quality as a custom build. It’s like buying a meal from McDonald’s vs buying one from a Michelin rated restaurant. You need low expectations and to stay on top of the builder throughout the entire process in order to prevent problems, rather than hope they’re fixed after the fact.

No foreman to oversee the work being done, everyone eats lunch and spends 2hrs while on a 10 hr job joking and smoking. 6 months to do a job that takes them 2weeks total of half azzing. What's new?

IMO - The new home problems are occurring everywhere across the country. In fact, in Texas there were so many people fleeing here that houses were going up like pancakes with often little attention being paid to quality. There is a nickname for the shoddy structures: COVID homes.

Yup I bought a new KB home and I had the same ceiling cracks in my kitchen and dining room. The repairs made the ceiling look so bad. They do not put any noise canceling around toliet pipes and the walls you hear the water go down the wall. Kb homes are Horrible

Should have a class action lawsuit against the builders, obviously poor lazy craftsmanship . It's all about the money and how many of these cookie cutter houses can they cram into a space and make millions off of people.

Homes are being built to fast and these builders are contracting the cheapest contractors they can find. You would be surprised how many have little experience.

Built a house on the east coast and didn’t have problems for at least 15 years with anything, built a house in Arizona and problems arose almost immediately, in less than a year. Big problems too. Honestly, the quality of workmanship out west is pretty bad and it takes them years to get anything done. Classic..

First off, keep posting and advertising these crooked builders so people stop buying their screwed up houses. Secondly, I blame the city and city building inspectors for not inspecting these houses properly. The city wants to get their money asap, so they’re overlooking at the problems with these building. Who’s getting into problems,you guessed it, the poor people who are buying that property.

It’s called cheap labor unlicensed subs and building then as fast as they can. They don’t care about the quality it’s all about quantity!
