Explain to me how the SIM tracks one's online habits? The ISP and some services you use might do it at a deeper level but it doesn't need the SIM for it. The SIM only "knows" if you are online or not.

Back in the days of dialup, I knew a guy who took an unlisted landline (that cost extra) so nobody can track his online habits (watching pr0n). Then he went to get three different safety proxy services so his kids would be safe surfing the web. Then he called me because his connection was completely inoperable. He had also bought a €60/year anti-virus/mal/ad software that completely bogged down his 5 year old entry level PC he had bought used. Yeah, it was safe.

But I can see one benefit already - one might get a comparably inexpensive phone with a fair camera that is good enough for them, and have no SIM in it to avoid being interrupted by telemarketers or other nonsense when photographing - and still have a fair camera for the price.

There is no mystery all authorities have a black ops grade program to where your passwords don't exist for them. From EMT's to Doctors & Nurse practitioners & Police. they can see everything you post on social media be it text or vlog plus the 17 security agencies in America they store all your communications for 6 months text & voice converted to text

Just like whenever you sign a contract with either a credit card or an app on your phone, and you enable that you are allowing them to use your in order to help you navigate the internet and make sure that what you are looking for is at the access of your fingertips, so you enable people to use. Your data regardless, whatever you want it. You are being tracked. There is nothing we can do about it. If you want to live in society, we enabled tracking to help us live. The comfortable life that we are seeking to live. You wanna live more privacy? Don't get internet, don't get a cell phone.

So I'm about to debunk you, because even though you were no longer using a SIM card. Once you hook your phone up to the internet via Wi-Fi, guess what ends up happening, you be creative? IPS just like you said. Even if you use AV, P, N, the VPN's are government-run, you have to go through The Fed F. D. A or the CC in order to have your information established. If it's not federally regulated, it cannot exist. The laws dictate that the Constitution dictates remember. Nothing is free and we're all being tracked regardless of whatever if you hook up to a SIM card or internet, everything's being tracked.

There's no subscription for hotspot that can compete with my mobile subscription. (In Norway)

My mobile subscription has free calling and messages but limited data.

The amount of data I would need without free calling and messages would be way more expensive, because all calls would be data.

Other people may have asked this, I don't know - haven't looked at very many comments.

One glaring issue is that educational part of the spectrum that the hotspot uses - how much traffic can it handle? If millions of people go for this won't it clog the band? And how long will it take for the feds to shut down or restrict it? Isn't it for educational purposes? How is Calyx's use of it educational? If lots of people go for this won't the government take notice & umbrage? Is there an alternative to that narrow portion of the spectrum? I hope dependence on it is not the fulcrum & weak link of this method. One thing is certain - phone companies will yank the chains of their back pocket politicians to shut this down. It's always a cat-&-mouse game between them and We The People - that needs to stop on every level.

This is an excellent idea - I hope it doesn't get derailed by these issues.

A Faraday bag will not do anything except take money out of your wallet. The frequencies for 2G 3G 4G, 5G are so high you would need a sizeable box made from nickel ferrite blocks. If your phone works in any elevator, a Faraday bag is not going to do anything. 2-2.5 meter band VHF two way radios have trouble in elevator shafts and stairwell shafts but they operate at frequencies that are much much lower. UHF works better in these places, but that is a 70cm band for ham radio and municipal, govt' and business UHF bands are very close to 70cm. Cell phone bands are 43cm, 37.5cm (AT&T & Verizon). T Mobil and Sprint operate in the 14-15cm bands. Sadly Ramsey is gone. They used to sell portable nickel ferrite RF shielding boxes. We need those to repair cell phones on the RF TX level.

I have a few pocket wifi hotspot devices (for different carriers) and a common problem they all share is battery life. None of them give more tha a few hours run time when not plugged in to a charger. Their batteries also age faster than phone batteries and after just a year mine struggle to give even one hour at full data throughput. I would need to carry a power bank, wifi hotspot and phone if I wanted it to last to lunchtime. When I use it with a laptop the hotspot gets powered from that and then the laptop usually gets plugged in.

I worked for AT&T (left 2011) previously worked for local TV station, I have Comptia A+ certification.

I currently work for a bank that utilizes an app to service customers in the US.

I’ve seen the cell phone industry evolve.

What you suggest is not practical for most people and will not be effective.

Aside from that you are trying to push back the ocean tide where privacy concerns are involved.

I would like to say I admire your goal but I see it in the same way I would see a 6 year old building a rocket ship out of cardboard boxes.

bullshit. they can track you with the cell regardless of sim or not, thats why there are smartphones, sims are secondary. Tested it and kept my phone disconnected, at the end of the day it knows ALL of the locations I went to. THE REAL PROBLEM is that they are tracking people and they should not. Instead of all this bullshi, we should be doing something about the goverments and elites, but everyones a bunch of pussys. War is waged against us, 21cen war, corpost want dystopia and corpos are elites and governments together. well done people. being a conspiracy theorist means being a hero, too bad they will kill us without anyone giving a shit.
