The Sony A6100: Saving $150 Isn't Worth It

if it was around 500 to 550 pounds then i would definitely pick this over the a6400. but right now on uk amazon the a6100 is 660 with a kit lens, and the a6400 is 719. definitely just gonna spend the little extra

Mistake, the comparison should be between A6100 and the A6000 which it replaced!

People speak of 150 of 'not a lot'. Well, to some it is and if you use the 6100 for photography you'll get the same results as the 6400 and You've saved enough to treat 'She who must be obeyed' to a little something.

The a6400 is "so much better" is very subjective and not true for every use case. It might be true for a professional video blogger such as yourself....but for the average weekend photography enthusiast or someone who just wants to take great pictures and occasional video, saving $200 and buying the 6100 is the way to go.

I went for 6400, i couldn't find 6100. The grip is smaller than i expected.

In my country there are almost zero availability if this cameras. Only second hand with inflated prices

I just got the a6600, its a beast compared to my old D3100

Now in my region its almost 250$ + difference for me a6100 is a better deal

I always appreciate all these electronic reviews, but as with most electronics it’s always a numbers game. If you save $200 you can buy the next level camera. But if you save $500 you can get the next next size up. If you throw even more money, you can potentionally shoot the next Avengers’ film. Lol Getting good gear is important, but sometimes we forget to create. You have to remember that a lot of the tools released now eventually become obsolete a few years later.

I appreciate this video in particular because I learned a few more things that I didn’t know before between these two alphas. But it just convinced me more about getting the 6100 as a starting camera, specifically because I’m going to be working indoors with a more controlled setting.

I use the a6100. Videos come out great same as photos. Only thing i wish it had is Log. But that's okay tbh i just adjust some settings to get similar style.

I bought an a6100 that came with a Sony tripod, a camera bag, the 16-50mm kit lens, a 50mm 1.8 lens, a microphone, a lens hood, 2 chargers and a nice camera strap for $800. Everywhere I look the 6400 body alone is over $800.

Sony A6100 camera isn't as bad as this video's thumbnail. Infact it's a very good camera.

Both A6100 and A6400 should have been fitted with articulationg LCDs.

Thank you for highlighting these differences in a simple straightforward way. I’m looking for the best mirrorless or DSLR for around $1200 or less (body only) to record my nieces. One is a gymnast and the other does local community theater. I will be purchasing a 70-200mm f2.8 lens for whatever body I choose as well. I’m looking for eye autofocus that functions in 4k. Some have suggested Sony a6600 (I’m a little concerned about the rolling shutter) others have suggested Canon M6 Mark ii (some have said eye autofocus doesn’t work in 4k) Any help from other viewers would also be appreciated.

Does the a6100 have a record limit? Different videos and websites are saying they do have a 30 minute record limit? Can anyone confirm this?

In India the difference is almost over $300 and I am really happy with a6100 and it is a really good camera.

You know the A6100 is good when all he can come up are nothing but BS reasons.



- No premium feel? Who cares about that when you're busy framing.
- No weather sealing? Pretty sure majority of people looking to buy a cheap mirrorless like the A6X00 line are non professional photographers who wouldn't be a photographer for NatGeo.
- Viewfinder? It's a freaking mirrorless camera.
- A tiny bit smaller buffer? Again, majority of folks looking in to the Sony A6X00 line are non professional photographers. No one of those would be using them to do professional sports photography.


Overall this is a bad review of the A6100. I've seen better objective reviews for this camera.

Just bought an A6100....and now I'm currently boxing it back up. Thank you for this video. I found the A6400 for $100 more than what I paid for the 6100. Life saver bro!

Dual pixel autofocus is still great
I personally think that it is better than Sony’s
But I just love the continuous shooting for cheap price.
Sony is the best option for amazing build quality and great photo and video (both)
Overall Sony is better but canons amazing colors and autofocus still makes it an solid buy.
Canon cameras focus on one element per camera.(mostly video, Nikon and Sony are the best in photography)
Canon is better if you want amazing images right out of the box and amazing video quality.👍🏻👍🏻
