This was an AWESOME film!!!
And I'm pretty sure it was inspired by one of the shorts in Heavy Metal.

The fifth element is Aether. There I saved you a trip to Wikipedia and an hour and a half long movie.

I love the high pitch screaming 😆😆

GOAT. I think late 90s sci-fi was the best in general. It's when movies took risks. They weren't perfect, but they were art.

Laidrunner is an especially good name given the presence of Brion James.

The made up language Lelu speaks was actually a functioning language developed by Luc Besson. Both Luc and Milla Jovovich knew it so well that they would have full conversations in it on set.

The guy with the weird hat at the end is Mathieu Kassovitz, the french director of La Haine (and other films) and actor in Amelie :)

They don't make them like they used to anymore. Seriously, Costume design on this movie is out of this world, literally.

"Aziz, light" and "give me the cashhhh" are quotes I still use to this day and I'm yet to meet someone who doesn't know the reference.

I still question how real that prince trivia is regarding this film. I don’t think he would’ve done it either way. He may have been approached by the filmmakers, but I’m sure it was already a definite “no” in his head before they were even done giving him the pitch.

Never twigged to that before - Oldman and Willis never actually meet in the movie 😵‍💫

Everything about this movie is perfect. The unique set design, score, actors, costumes, the editing, SFX, pacing, and the imaginative story with the comedy blended seamlessly with the action. I doubt there will ever be another Sci-fi movie this unique again. Hats off to everyone involved in this movie, especially Luc Besson.

When I saw this in the theater I was expecting a standard action movie. It confused me; I didn't like it.
Later, it was on TV when I was at a friend's house, and watching it now and then, I would notice things like, "Oh, the cops look like Mœbius designs". I eventually realized what it was, and loved it.
