I am not an engineer, but I have 2 years of education towards it, and even in my relatively little exposure to the field, I was absolutely sick reading the way they blew off the importance of independent safety testing and regulations. There's an old saying that many of the engineers I follow said about this incident - safety regulations are written in blood. They exist because people were killed or grievously injured by the actions or inactions they prohibit.

The field I did end up in after switching from petroleum engineering was software development, and my industry has one vile, disgusting pile of human shaped evil that popularized the phrase "move fast and break things", and the broken lives like those this company left in its wake are exactly what that phrase truly means when you get past the CEOs who profit off the victims of their recklessness.

The failure of the Boeing 737 Max design and subsequent crashes and loss of life was a consequence of negligence and abdication of responsibility.... The movement of production to another State where unions were kept out has accounted for production quality issues that grounded the Dreamliner and whistleblowers were fired and suppressed... i can’t believe on something going this deep with regular people, not pro divers or a safety/escape plan 🤦‍♀️. usually new transportation vessels … well i would think they would have a list of tests it would be required to pass several times. clearly none of that happened 😡 they should have known better. i’m not an engineer but i worked with all kinds of engineers, loads of all sorts of different types of engineers, i would help with some of the testing (in pharmaceuticals). the amount of detail that goes into validating equipment, packaging components (bottles, caps, film, foil, etc.); transportation simulation … and those aren’t live us 😢

Oceangate was not incollaboration with the University of Washington. Oceangate hired young inexperienced kids from their for $15 an hour.

That seems to be the key issue that carbon fiber did not allow consecutive Dives. OceanGate thought their sensors would give enough forewarning of hull failure but it’s not an early warning system like radar it’s more like a smoke detector. You’re ALREADY in the crisis. They couldn’t abort and ascend fast enough.They were 2.5 hours from the surface. The carbon fiber was probably only good for 2 or 3 safe dives then the machine needed to be retired or it’s components and accessories moved to a NEW shell/hull.

Personally, I don’t think the titanic should be a tourism site. Unless it’s for research, I don’t see the need to go down there.
