ОтветитьAlphea is so beautiful
ОтветитьYea the time thing also bothered me so much, because I like to have a conscience timeline in my head 😭 I think a good head canon would just be to say the portal that daphne used to transport bloom to earth diluted time, which fixes a lot of it (second movie aside), but then again I wouldn’t see why, as there’s plenty of portals and travel in the show that don’t have that issue… maybe make it a conscious choice, so she couldn’t be found for a long time? Or maybe magic just evolved since then…but then still there’s the age gap between bloom and daphne, since she seems more like a young adult to me, older teenage max, but there was a flashback of baby bloom pov showing her silhouette as maybe a nine to ten year old, yet when she saves bloom she’s grown up? Did she magically age up upon dying?
ОтветитьIm glad you brought up the fighting with timmie and tecna in s2 because it really didnt make sense to me why shed be so mad at him when she also was kinda ignoring him just to play games with digit? Like he was gifting her stuff shed be able to use for her hobbies and interests which is confusing because why shed turn around and be mean about it? I feel like the writers just threw that in so all the couples would have some conflict to work through but this made the least sense.
And speaking of s2 i wholeheartedly believe professor palladium is gay and im fully convinced by the way he was blushing when avalon saved him i forget which episode specifically but there is no heterosexual explanation why hed be blushing over being held by him. I can only hope that once the real avalon came back to alfaea that they are just off being fruity somewhere offscreen.
I know this video is old... But did you say you got cancer? If so, I hope you could fight it and that you're well again❤
As for your question, I loved Musa and her outfits in general 🥰
Body types in cartoons or animes never bothered me because I knew it's just kinda of a drawing, artistic freedom and just a fiction. But I'm sad for all people that did and I mean it. Comparing yourself to an unrealistic beauty or body standard and being sad about it, must really get you. But I personally never had a problem and never will and since I learned that every country and "race" has their own unique style and beauty and that I for example never can look like one of my kpop idols because my body is build different and my face has a different shape etc, I feel better. Let's just enjoy the beauty in everything but mostly in ourselves. ❤❤
I had a really strong feeling that you are a “beon girl” 😂 after viewing the Witch review. And yeah, I was right hahah
Ответитьthinking about it now it'd have been good if there was body diversity, but i don't think as a kid i registered how they look as a standard. i was very young when i watched it, so although i identified with them as characters i wouldn't compare myself to them directly, because they were older, and a lot of things that they were dealing with, their fashion choices etc weren't applicable to me, so that kinda fell into that category. plus, it was very obvious to me it was a stylistic choice, much like how their eyes take up like a fourth of their faces. i do remember my mum criticising the show for it and disliking their unrealistic bodies, whilst i'd never paid it any mind
ОтветитьI’m getting back into winx after watching the Netflix live adaptation. I grew up watching it and you really make valid points and observations but I think you lack in research. Winx was an Italian made production, their animation technology and budget is not what it’s like in America. I only watched season 1 of the cartoon growing up but the character designs, personalities, and atmosphere carried the show. I’m Italian and watching the season in Italian and English, some sayings and conversations don’t carry well to English and that’s were the translation can make dialog awkward. I wish you did a bit more research instead of a majority of the video being opinion based. Italy is known for fashion and culture, and that’s why every outfit is absolutely fire. I love how you sectioned your videos with art direction, writing, design, etc, but think actually doing DEEP research would have been more valuable as an educational video.
ОтветитьWhen I was watching this video Ive got an idea to draw bloom in her Magic Winx form (I cant draw) and I managed to do it preatty well. I think all of the winx energy chaneld through the screen and gave me some power to do this! Anyways it was a great video, you realy did a good job in explaining everything. The almost 2 hour flew by so quickly.
ОтветитьRegarding the timeline issues, I understood it to mean 300 years passed in the Domino dimension, but only 17 years passed on earth. I thought like...30-50 years passed in the Alfea dimensions. shrugs
ОтветитьI have an opinion on the winx outfits: while i loved their clothes to death from the first 4 seasons and i still think that they were never sexualized, the revealing nature of the clothes made it really hard for some girls to fully enjoy this show without being berated by parents and the people around them. I remember having to be careful when watching it because i came from a very strict household, and watching such media was considered sinful. Nobody ever stopped to realise that the show never actually pushed anything with the outfits, it was just a fashion choice. Still, it also made it hard for me to peacefully enjoy it in front of my more conservative family members.
ОтветитьI'd just like to remind everyone that Eraklyon(not sure how it's spelled) guards use crop tops
ОтветитьInteresting, this means you could call on the power of whatever fairy does whatever thing you want
ОтветитьLmfaooo
ОтветитьRight Musas dress is gorgina
ОтветитьWinx walked so that RWBY could run
ОтветитьSadly the Body image affected me a bit. But I think it has to do with how conventionally attractive female characters are portrayed in general. When I watched Winx I already had issues with my own image and compared myself to any female presenting character in any type of media. Of course I knew it was a cartoon, but I still wished for a tiny waist like Floras…
ОтветитьMurdering my eyes with lens flare because it's art
Ответитьi dont know if u did already but you should talk about world of winx. it bothers me a lot how the winx hide their powers on earth when they supposedly brought magic on earth in s4
ОтветитьLooking back my choice in fashion is influenced by this and anime.
ОтветитьThank you for the video! ❤
By the way, was the site you're talking about BeOn? c:
Watching winx as an adult heals my inner child fr. There is literally nothing toxic about it (only talking 1-4 seasons, the best ones). And the way it set my standards so high for men lmfao, I am not having a man who doesn't match Brandon & Nabu's energy. Everything is so natural, real & uplifting about the show. It's a girl's girl show hundred percent.
ОтветитьSomething I wish more people would talk about in regards to the show is how unhealthy BloomxSky,. A lot of people put the blame on sky, but in reality, it was actually bloom who was responsible for most of it. oh my biggest beef with the series is that bloom is never allowed to actually be wrong even in the earlier seasons, and even when she does some really awful stuff, there’s never any real consequences for it.
For example, the day of the Royals episode, when she attempted to broach the subject of them having a deeper connection, sky, actually retreated, and tried to shut the talk down because he had a fiancé. Giving her a no. But when you get down to the biscuit, she basically caused the entire issue there because she refused to take what was accounts a clear or no for an answer, and then barging into his life again to try to demand an explanation. (Stella even tried to point out the fact that the day of the Royals is coming up so he’s probably busy.)
It annoys me how people try to say that sky cheated on bloom during the whole thing, but they weren’t together by that point. They were strictly friends.
Honestly, honestly, it boggles my mind how bloom doesn’t get more crap for the stuff that she’s pulled.
I keep coming back to this video bc while there are other winx club video essays none of them can cover it well enough and with the respect it deserves. You are the only one I turst with all my fav childhood gems :')
ОтветитьAlso what really bugged me about the relationships between the girls and the guys was blaming the guys for being jealous in situations that are so understandable and that the girls would lose their shit over. I do agree that the jealousy between stella en brendon was so weird.
ОтветитьAs a boy, I loved Winx so so so much, Bloom and Stella especially. What a fun show & sooo imaginative! And such cool fights and concepts (sci-fi & fantasy together). As a man now, I still really like it and finally seeing Season 3, it was just magical in the best way. Especially with local dubbing, it also felt that much stronger, though that's a very personal thing I have to say.
I will probably update this comment throughout me watching.
About the body styles, I never really looked at them in any sexual way and I think I was like "yeah, ig specialists are ripped cuz they train so hard, makes sense". I never really looked at the girls sexually (well, as a <9 year old, I don't think I even had much of a sex drive lol) - I did really and I mean REALLY like Dark Bloom, I think she might have sparked some form of childish attraction. I still dig her, though most definitely influenced by nostalgia here, lol.
Oh my god, the timeline issue, yes! It was actually something Fate did actually well, because that plot hole is just bizarre "Ah yes, the Ancient Witches, who destoryed Domino a long time ago - like 16 yrs ago or so, who the Trix regard as their ancestors" - it's such a shame this part of the story is all over the place.
Not the "Tuta Patuta" PTSD, why did you play that clip...
No Dark Bloom mention in the Design section is very saddening to me, though I understand she was there for like 3 episodes or so, it still felt really cool to me, especially the vertical slit eyes and long Trix-reminiscient nails, the jagged wings and ruffled hair, it is super memorable to me.
Regarding the movie - well, we had it on DVD at home, so it was my only way to rewatch Winx when the series wasn't airing. So I have a strong attachment to it. I found it enjoyable, but rewatching it recently, it was as you said, kinda weird in the choices it made. I will say I mostly REALLY like how they transitioned from 2D to 3D, it all still feels very Winx-y (also yes, I was also mesmerized by their nails, especially Blooms, idk how they did that). Overall, I like it a lot, but it really has some problems (like the engagement that becomes non-existent lmao?).
Season 4 was really frustrating for me and I actually took a really long break before watching seasons 5 and 6 recently. The relationship drama was killing me inside and the Winx just felt dumber overall. It was just all over the place. I did like the ending being more dark, more dramatic, but it was only the ending and I kinda forgot everything about Season 4 at this point.
Well, watching it all, I have to say, THANK YOU so much for this! What a great video to watch, I watched it in one sitting, I was really into it, it is fascinating to hear more Winx fans talk about it.
Only thing good about this show was how sexy they looked. That's about it
ОтветитьVideo essays are getting outta hand men 💀
ОтветитьI think the body standard ruins immersion for some viewers. Obviously it’s a cartoon and not real, but like you said when comparing it to shows like My Little Pony, people (especially kids) like imagining themselves in those fantasy worlds and thinking of how they’d fit into those systems and stories. If fat people or main characters don’t really exist, and you’re fat, it’s almost like there’s no place in that world for you. You’d be an anomaly because you don’t even fit into the art style itself. Not having diversity in body types or facial features, even if subtle, leads to different levels of connection between people. As an artist I’ve tried to recreate myself in video games or draw myself in different styles, and even though I love my looks, it’s very obvious to me that those artists don’t think my features are a possibility of beautiful when I can’t exist with non-straight hair, a wide nose, or wide shoulders, or a round face, or be anything other than skinny. Like yes art styles exist but I feel like at a point it crosses a line where your features just aren’t supposed to exist in that type of world yknow? 😅
ОтветитьGlad to see the tecna love. She gets so much hate for no reason, love seeing people appreciate what she brings to the table❤
ОтветитьI'm male, and this was my childhood.
ОтветитьI have a hooked "roman" nose and a strong jaw and I definitely felt negatively impacted by that one beauty pageant episode in season 1 where Lucy was portrayed as ugly and was laughed at because of those features.
ОтветитьThe writing was so damn good before Nick ruined the show
Ответитьseated for this
ОтветитьHoly. Just hearing that 4 seconds of the intro made me have to seek it out and hear it multiple times. So much nostalgia in both the music and the video.
I remember watching this show over and over again with my two younger sisters. I never realised I actually like the show that much xD
The blur effect on the camera filter is really distracting
ОтветитьTuta patuta.
ОтветитьВвввввмвввввввмввввм😂
Ответитьi think the boys in the winx club where pointless in my opinion like those girls saved the world on their own. it annoyed me so much
ОтветитьOkay, about the extremely thin body types - that has never bothered me as a kid and I never felt like I should look like them. Similarly as you, I just saw it as art direction. 🤷🏻♀️ I honestly feel like it's unfair to say that shows are problematic for having such stylization. Their bodies were never the centre of attention, their stylish outfits and personalities were.
However I spoke to a friend who grew up overweight and she said she did compare herself, but that was after her mother overly criticized her body and compared her body to other girls. I feel like as kids, we aren't just comparing ourself to characters in series or movies, it is a learned behaviour. What was actually toxic were other movies, where fat (or let's be honest, anyone who wasn't model thin) were mocked profusely. Not Winx which were wholesome.
winx somehow feels like a girl equivalent of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
ОтветитьKatseye need to collab with Mattel and Rainbow!
We are the Winx!
Manon:magical flowers
Yoonchae:digital powers
Sophia:rhythms and tunes
Daniela:the sun and the moon
Lara:magic shapes and shifting tides
Megan:and the fire burning deep inside
I can’t watch this video because i can hear how dry your mouth is. You needed to drink some water or something before recording. The sound grosses me out so bad
ОтветитьWhich outfit is your fave?🦋
