As a Christian I respect your beliefs. And to any atheists out there, I hope you read Matthew 5-7, Im sure most of you have read it many times. My parents were raised christians, but they had they never practiced christianity much to begin with, and didn't believe - so they never raised me nor my sisters under religion. I was raised atheist, and although I do not think the existence of a god to be impossible, i don't feel the need to believe in any religion or any god. If a god exists, and if the afterlife is a thing, then we're all gonna find out eventually. Hearing about the experience of a newly atheist raised in a very religious home is very interesting to me - this is just a life that i never imagined before. And learning about others' experience can only make me more empathetic and better overall.
Your channel is a gem. Even though I don't relate to your, and a lot of your audience's struggle, it is very interesting. (I live in France, and although religion is a thing there too, France takes Laïcity to a T, church is strictly separated to all things public and political, so I actually never encountered a french iteration of a conservative religious group here. Not that it doesn't exist, there must be some, but i never met any personally.) Your channel helps me contextualize a lot of what I hear about America and the experiences of a lot of my american friends.

I was raised Catholic, but I have never been a Christian (or anything else).
I went along to church with my parents once a week (feeling so bored during mass that as a boy I tried to hold my breath for as long as possible - I believe my record was 2 minutes 20 seconds or so, or was it 3 minutes 20 seconds? 😄 Hey, it's many, many years ago).
I remember having to (like: being "forced" because my mother wanted it) pray along with my mother and my younger sister before going to bed.

I went to Catholic schools (that, luckily, were not fundamentalist).

Then, when I was 16 years old and was not feeling so good about myself and about "life", one Sunday morning I stayed in bed instead of getting up to go to church.
Well, World War 3 started (and finished faster than any other real war).

I have been a "conscious" atheist ever since.

I have two reasons for being am atheist:


1. I have never "sensed" or "experienced" the existence of a god (of or any other religious/Christian being or whatever some will call it). If "God" exists, then where is "He"?
(Now, I am a highly sensitive person, so if there WAS a god, then I am convinced that I would "sense" him/her/it. But I don't and I never have. I am also supposed to have a higher IQ than most other people--not that that has got me far in life. 🙄)


2. Looking at what life is like for all life on this planet - animals and us, humans - with all the physical and mental suffering, and in the end death, then it is my conclusion that it is logically impossible for the Christian god (omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent) to exist.
(There MAY be a god stressing the "MAY" but this "thing" does not deserve my worship nor my attention.)

There is no god (or gods). There is just us, now. And one day there will be NOTHING anymore, and that will last for an eternity.

Greetings fellow Atheist! So I was a believer at one point just like you. What dawned on me that God doesn't exist. Is that, he can't logically exist within the defined parameters he exists with in. How so? Well, first off..are we eternal? Yes, we are made up of matter and energy. Both are eternal. Neither created nor destroyed. Just simply transferred. So, there couldn't be a creator if there was never a created. Plus, he can't be all knowing or all powerful due to the Omnipotence and Epicurean Paradoxes. Same as to why we can't be Gods or Goddesses either. So yes, thanks for being a man of science, reason, and logic! ^^

Is your channel an atheist channel?

A person who was fooled by young Earth creationists is highly likely to be fooled by evolutionists.

What if in an alternate timeline, all religions never existed? And if early humans instead immediately discovered science, electricity, medicine, and technology? How'd the world have looked like throughout history? Imagine growing up in that reality with altered memories and experiences.

I’m a theist(Christian) and I’m at a crossroad because I feel like I’ve been presented evidence for both sides of the argument for god existing and god not existing. Any advice? Would like opinions from agnostics/atheists but theists of course are open to convince me otherwise. What bothers me the most is that why would god create someone if he knew that they would go to hell? I’ve seen the reason for that be to show his glory, but I feel like showing your glory by sending someone to hell that you created and knew would go to hell and reject you for eternity or a period of time is immoral. And I’m not even considering any other religion especially Islam since I don’t want to follow the example of someone who married a 7-9 year old. I’ll be honest if I do become atheist/agnostic and god and hell and heaven ends up being real I’ll go calmly and without complaint go to hell.

i am lae but i hope i'm not too late i grew up in a strong muslim culture and the universe really fasinates me so as i began to study i found out that it generally disprove everything the quran says i tried to dismiss it but i just couldnt

You can stop sinning when homosexual… if you are biologically inclined to have attraction to the same sex if you don’t ack on it it’s not a sin, God gives every single person a special sin challenged and I personally know people who claim to be homosexual and then choose to not have sex and swear to abstinence similarly to how a drug addict can choose to not take drugs. homosexual sex would be no different to and other sin it’s a unique challenge each person has that is designed to challenge you are a person, there can be gay Christians just not practicing one’s, and even then everyone struggles with sin that is no different.

I don't agree with you on lgbtq. I'm 59 years old and when I was young in Jr. High and high school there was not one person I can remember who talked like gay men do today. That feminine disposition etc. Seeds were planted in tv programs and movies starting in the 80s and above. Then the seeds turned into a forest of lgbtq people saying they were born that way. No, you were groomed. Granted, a few people are genuinely gay or lesbien from birth but very few.

I'm not slamming this guy. I applaud his journey and where he currently is. That being said, this strikes me as the "obese guy/gal/whatever discovers being fit is better". Yeah. Isn't that obvious from the get go? Isn't it obvious that "God", as regularly defined, is logically false? Just as being fit allows you to do SO much more? I used to be an atheist and died last summer; please read all of this: Jesus is the only way to heaven because God is the father, yes. The Bible explains that Satan tricked Adam and Eve into sin. Before, Satan was an angel in heaven beloved by God, but Satan who was a high-ranking angel, gathered 1/3 of heaven's angels to try to get rid of God and be God himself. That did not work, so God made hell for Satan and cast him and the 1/3 of the angels, turning them into Satan and demons. He created hell for them. Before, it was just earth and heaven. Satan hated God and us, therefore. He decided to trick Adam and Eve into sin. And so they fell and all of mankind. We are all descendants of Adam and Eve. Therefore, we all sin. God allowed animal sacrifice to pay for these sins so they could be found guiltless. Then, eventually, he decided to send Jesus to die and pay for our sins by shedding his blood. Because Jesus was born to a virgin and God was the father, he did not inherit the fallen state. Jesus never sinned for 33 years, and so he truly was the sacrifice for us. To accept this free gift and spend eternity with God and other people in heaven. All you have to do is have faith and pray the salvation prayer. Ask for faith if you need to.

If thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thy heart, God hath raised him from the dead. Thou shall be saved.

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Saved from what? Everlasting torment in hell.

We are saved in grace, through faith, and that is not of your own works, lest any man should boast. It is the gift of God.

That means being a good person is not what saves you. Faith in Jesus is what saves you. And if you don’t have faith, you can pray for faith, and you will not be abandoned, ok.

I used to be an atheist.
Last summer, I died as a Christian, and it was the most wonderful, loving and peaceful experience. I have watched many NDEs, and there’s blackness and hell for the non-believers and love and peace, mansions, gardeners, etc, for the people who accepted Jesus. It might not seem fair, but the bible tells us that God doesn’t wish that ANY should perish. So don’t perish and accept Jesus today because you never know when your last breath will be.

If you want to accept him, now pray this:

Father, I believe you raised him from the dead and even if I do not, I have some level of faith; by praying this and your word, I can trust that I will be saved. I felt the same as you described at the beginning about all the things you were taught to believe. I also thought I had a personal relationship with God. I also left religion but I didn’t become atheist. I found your video because I can’t find any comforting videos about God because all church video seem so made up and fake so I looked up atheist because at least it’s an honest look at how others feel. You mentioned your science back ground and coming to the obvious conclusion about the age of the earth. I too think the age of the earth is misleading in Christianity. But where you come to the conclusion God is not real …it did the opposite for me that God is real but it’s religion that is not. Gays is a big obstacle yea? Hell fire and brimstone teachers standing on street corners shouting “you will burn in hell” the verses they use to support this …(imo) have another application that doesn’t speak of gay but what religion does in you all love to get others naked and look on their shame to satisfy your own lust. (Imo) that is what those passages speak of …two that ought to love one another doing what is “unseemly” of “the nasty dance” …men with men and women with women going a fist their own bodies. To me it says nothing about what religion says it speaks of, but it’s those on the street corner getting off on their desires and lust …it’s those who do unseemly things with one another. Maybe that makes no sense but I love the quote that goes something like “I like your Jesus…I hate your Christians.”

Stupid atheists cannot accept obvious truth, blindly following their preachers. After all, it is obvious that death is not infinity, that is, as atheists say, the end where you forever lose consciousness, memory and thoughts. If that were the case, you would already be dead. It doesn’t matter how long you live, a second or a century, infinity will swallow everything up. Thus, if you are not dead now, but alive, then this proves that you will never die in the future. I don’t think I became an atheist, I’ve always been.

Life is so much more when you understand how we came to be. How a millennia of evolution birthed modern humans and how our ancestors lived their lives. For me, meaning of life comes from living itself. Half of our species didn't even survive in the world before modern medicine came to be. How can we as a species negate scientific research then? and believe in these things that don't do us any good in the grand scheme of things? philosophical ideation is one thing, but to impose these ideas and create a story about them to control the masses is not. Unfortunately people are way too susceptible to these ideas because of certain vulnerabilities. Life has so much meaning because your life gives birth to other life on earth and everything on earth is connected this way. I never really fully believed in religion, but I truly stopped seeking any sort of meaning from it when I realised how humans use it as a weapon to control and exploit. Religion shouldn't exist at all. There should not be systems that oppress people and continue to do so based on made up stories. How can you, as a person with a brain, believe in a magical stick that separates oceans? or turns into snakes? And how can you as a person believe that a dead man would return to 'save' you?. I just don't get it. it's completely foolish and mockery of our intelligence as a whole species. I wish people could see how humans use religion as a way to exploit, steal, lie, build authority, keep people from getting education so they can escape their demise, and use it for their personal gains.

Wonderful, informative video! You were lucky to have the internet when you became an Atheist! It was very lonely & isolating to be an Atheist in the early 1980’s. One would be socially shunned and outcasted if anyone found out. It’s slightly easier now but still tough in most parts of the country.

I live in a christian family, not like praying every meal, just go to church every sunday. I was really interetsed in science, math, and astronomy. I learned of evolution later, and at the time I thought they could both exist toghether, god causing evolution or something. After some time though, I grew increasingly more distant from the belief in god, and eventually started calling myself atheist. I still go to church, however, mainly because my parents still make me go, but I know this is just the way people fill in holes in knowledge. Think up an excuse and get a billion people to think that as well.

First off, well done! What a delight to hear an articulate description of both your journey and your present rationale for where you ended up. I spent about 18 years as an evangelical Christian, beginning at age 18 (I was raised Episcopalian). What drew me and kept me was personal experience, and more particularly, metaphysical experience which I attributed to the interventions of Jesus. As I got into my 30's I began to see my metaphysical experiences as something I had in common with people of many different faiths or of no faith. This led to me questioning the origin of the Bible, the organized church, and ultimately, the whole notion of anyone needing "salvation."

I tend to avoid the term "atheist" to describe where I ended up because that is often interpreted to be "anti-theist." At root, I am a "live and let live" person. If you choose to believe the Bible, I feel no compulsion to convince you not to believe, so long as you let me believe as I see fit. I DO believe in metaphysical experience and allow for the possibility that there may be a universal "god" or life force behind it all. I also believe that today's metaphysics will be better understood and accepted as tomorrow's physics. The "intention experiments" are a first step in this direction, measuring electrical effects at the receiving end of sent intentions, in a double-blind set of experiments. However, I feel no need to "worship" any forces just because I don't understand them.

Lastly, I find the Old Testament stories to be more likely about earthly rulers or possible extraterrestrials than an actual deity with a "chosen people." Yes, we're all special and deserve a trophy. Or something. And the New Testament is so specious in its origins and subsequent filtering of its content as to be quite controversial and untrustworthy. We can't even get a straight answer as to how Judas Iscariot died!

The funniest thing about the Bible is that it was curated, filtered, edited and promoted by the Roman Catholic church. The Roman Catholics were its exclusive conservators until the Protestant Reformation led to a few minor tweaks. Today, the more fundamentalist a person is, the more anti-Catholic they tend to be. But the ultimate irony is, these same fundamentalists are the very same people most likely to assert that the Bible is the perfect, literal, inspired word of God. (Even though it was brought to you by the "anti-Christ" Catholics!) LOL
