I was 9yrs old when this aired. I don't recall if we watched this, but I presume so. My family always watched the Walton's together. My grandmother LOVED the Walton's, because it reminded her so much of her family growing up at that time period. There were 8 children in her family.

I was a young mother when I saw this on its first airing. It reminded me of my family growing up. I was the oldest of 8. We had more love than money My dad was much older ( born in 1908) . My dad had his own small dairy then his own small hay hauling and stacking business where he employed the family much of the time. My mom's mother lived with us until my father died. I was only 19 then. My father was the glue that held us together. I cherish the Waltons as a wonderful memory and also what could have been if he had lived.

Incredible acting skills by Richard in the scene when mama asks what he was doing in his room with the door locked. Incredible! And for all those saying it’s not the proper actors/ actresses, it was a pilot episode. The cast you all know came after. But I honestly think apart from John Boy the Walton kids were the ugliest kids on TV. Greedy and ungrateful too.. always were.
And was it really necessary to show that church scene! Droning on about a load of fictional rubbish.. smh.

I watched this 3 times in the last couple of weeks nothing else here I saw everything twice but I pick up something new every time I watched ot but does anyone else think that Patricia Neil Isa tad bit creepy kinda scary actually. ,like when the kids asked her why she married their Daddy and the weird way she said love and dragged it out and how when she corners John Boy in his room asking why he licks the door that woman would scare any kid half to death and she sounds just like Captain Catherine Janeway on star trek voyager on Kate Mulgrew is her real name she has the same raspy voice especially when Patricia Neil talk normal speed not all slow and creepy like in this movie but yup every time I watch her in this movie if she's trying to come across as an intimidating mother to the kids she's doing an Oscar winning Performance haha if you watch it again just pay attention to how creepy she cones across ,she's only acting but still creepy .and if kids were thar intimidated by their mothers like that back then we'll mothers today could learn a thing or two watching her in this movie .haha

Don’t know why they have most of the stars but the mother, she was a small women that spoke softly and sweetest women. So that was so sad that she couldn’t be in this one. Haven nothing didn’t stop you for having a wonderful Christmas, having a family member missing was the worst of a Christmas.

I grew up watching this in the 70’s, it was a big part of our lives in a small town called Renfrew, life was hard for us too so we felt rich after watching this and made us so grateful for what we had. I never felt poor. This is the problem today, money means everything today which is so sad. Family should always come first, kids kill there parents for there insurance money. Too much killing. Family is the most important thing in the world. But I’m old fashion, kids nowadays has no idea what it’s like to have grandparents, aunts and uncles surrounding you.
