He's legendary in military circles, not just because he killed more enemy soldiers, but because of the absolute terror he instilled in the Russian invaders.

He was the deadliest sniper ever, and he was only active for under 4 months.

In Finland everybody serves and they do their duty. Simo himself said "I was only doing my duty". Recent years his fame has grown and he was a quiet finnish man, not bragging of anything. He was just very good at what he did. There's always a question...do we celebrate man who just has come to front line and die. No we don't...maybe we should. Food for a thought..

Even the close second from the USSR does not come anywhere close to Hayha's deadliness
Like the video mentions he is said to have cut down a few hundred enemies with his submachine-gun as well and while they are not sniper kills and therefore not counted towards his sniper kills, they are statistics nonetheless and contribute towards his sniper status

The sheer statistics combined with the fact that he pulled many of history's best iron-sight shots recorded in any conflict makes him the deadliest sniper and one of the deadliest soldiers in history and on this note no one below him can be considered on the same level at all even if their statistics are somewhat "close"

One correction. He was NOT shot by a sniper, we was shot by a Soviet soldier who managed to make it to the trenches at the all-out assault by the Russkies close to the end of the war. Exactly 7 days before, because Simo turned around amongst the retreating Finns to take ONE... MORE... SHOT. He had already taken out ~40 Russkies by that moment, but he's a Finn. So... Putin? Wanna dance, ratface? We're waiting for the next bout that we've had over CENTURIES. This time, though, we'll NOT stop until Bearing Straights, you COMMIE puppet.

To put his kill count into perspective: he fought in the winter war, which lasted just over 100 days. That means he no-scoped at least 5 people a day!

There is, unconfirmed, but it is said he snipered 500+ and also normal combat 300+ enemies. so it gets around 800+.. and he said.. I did what I was supposed to do

And no, Simo never married due to respect of not giving a bad/ terrifying image to, or scare women with his scarred face and not to mix them up on his terrible profession. Not to mension, he was humble, mild mannered and generaly a friendly, simple man, who only did his duty to proctect against home invasion. Nothin more, nothing less.

He never shot a human being, just enemies. That was the mentality of Finnish soldiers defending their homeland.
