Tungsten carbide is actually a ceramic- not a metal. I haven't worn gold in a long time- I have a platinum ring and a palladium ring and a silver bracelet. Palladium is a nice material, works out slightly cheaper than platinum for the same style due to it's lower density while being more resistant to scratching than platinum. Palladium is very comfortable to wear due to how light it is, pure palladium gets overlooked compared with white gold, platinum or silver, but it is a great option as a luxury material! Looked into rhodium too, but it is a very expensive option, a ring that would cost around £200 in platinum or palladium cost about £900 in rhodium, so if you just want the most valuable material, that would be the one to pick as the only Pt group metal that is rarer is osmium and it cannot be worn unalloyed because it forms a toxic oxide.

One of the problems I have with rings is my ring size change from day to day.
I like using rings as a splash of color, to give a harmonious appearance. Lapis Luzia, malachite, tigers eye, carnelian, and charoite are wonderful stones for this purpose.

FYI gold jewelry has been just as expensive as platinum here lately. Gold is 1900 an oz whereas platinum is 900. Remember that 14k gold is roughly 50% gold and platinum has no other alloys so the prices are roughly the same. For the money, I would seriously consider platinum over gold with the current market if you’re looking at that white gold/silver finish for the color of your ring.

Platinum scratches more easily than gold or silver. If you choose a platinum ring it's best to go with a satin or brushed finish.
