Back Tweak Fix! (flexion-intolerant protocol)

Most low back tweaks, especially in the gym, lead to splinting, spasm, panic, and eventually “flexion intolerance”.

This means increased pain when bending forward. Though every motion is often painful in the beginning, flexion intolerance can often be significantly remedied with careful, repetitive extension loading (repetitively bending backwards to end range, wherever that currently is).

I’ve been a Chiropractor for 8 years now. Most patients that come see me and proceed explain this abrupt, painful onset while performing some strenuous activity backstory; I immediately think “flexion intolerance” until I prove it otherwise.

These are some tests and exercises to try, and they often help significantly. With this kind of tweak, the tests then become the treatment.

They will be tender and sore in the beginning.. but if pushing through that discomfort, slightly, begins to improve range of motion and decrease pain after multiple repetitions.. you’re on the right track. 👍🏼🫡

Now repeat every few hours (or at-least 4-5 times a day) until you’re feeling much better.

Then, figure out why you tweaked it, and work on that.
