The destruction of Jerusalem was foretold ny God Jesus 30 or so years earlier. Jesus said not one stone will stand on another in temple, and wept.

When the temple was set on fire, by Titus the gold and silver melted and stuck to the stones. The slaves and soldiers took apart the building blocks to get at the precious metal.

Not everything you like has to be a movie. I suppose you may drool and clap in glee after watching it…if ever made. Those things are made for the dull witted masses.

We Latin-speaking people: French, Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, can understand a lot of our mother tongue, Latin, without translation, maybe 60% of ancient inscriptions we can understand

Muderers, Slave Masters and boy lovers are being praised. How many murders, battles,rapes,pillagings & the list goes on This Empire is responsible for? Rome indeed was built over Slaves, People torn from their families. Somehow Europeans are cool with all this stuff.

This is an extremely excellent documentary that explains in detail the working of the Roman empire and the career of one of its greatest emperors. Apart from a couple of off the mark comments (see my comments below), the narrative and comments of the historians and archaeologists was spot on. This is indeed one of the best and informative documentaries on the Roman empire of the 1st century AD that I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Oh, and finally, the reconstructions of the city of Rome and other places, the reenactments of Roman soldiers and battles, and the overall footage is first class.

Vespasian had indeed bred mules for the Roman army on his extensive lands in Italy, but that didn't make him a "country bumpkin" ! He was a senator of Rome, a governor of provinces and an extremely good general of troops - hardly a Roman Farmer Giles with straw stuck behind his ears! He was indeed one of the best Roman emperors of all.

They forgot to mention the two epic battles fought at nearly the same place near Cremona in April and October AD 69. The first between the armies of Otho and Vitellius, the second between the armies of Vitellius and Vespasian.

@SNP-1999
@SNP-1999 - 06.12.2022 15:38

Vitellius didn't have a "rag tag army", it was comprised of the legions from the Rhine frontier in Germania and from the legions stationed in Britannia, together the elite of the Roman army of the time. What the Roman population thought peculiar about them were their uniforms and the clothes of the Germanic and Celtic auxiliary units - they looked barbaric to them.

I'm sorry but there was a glaring example of wrongness coming out of this documentary is that they said the Romans granaries were filled with corn. Oops, not even going to explain that one because it needs no explanation. If the Romans had corn, well that's data that belongs in the historical record and changes everything!!

Who is b a r b a r i a n?

Romans tried to annihilate Judaism, Christianity, Mithraism, they actually annihilated Manichaeism. Greece tried to make everyone Hellenistic. Persia is the only empire that did not destroy other cultures or religions, it respected all. Therefore they are glorified in the Bible and Greece and Rome r not.

When Persia defeated Babylon they allowed the defeated king to remain in power, they kept Babylonian customs. Babylon had to only pay taxes in return. They did the same with Egypt etc. Alexander did the opposite he tried to make Egypt Hellenistic. Similar to what Arabs did to many parts of Middle East, or what Anglo saxons did to native Americans, enforce their culture and annihilate what they encounter. Persia never did that. They respected others, ppl were free under Persian rule. This was not the case within Greek city states.

So the idea of evil Persians trying to destroy Greece is laughable. Alexander did more destruction to Greece than the Persians. Look up destruction of Thebes.

by modern standards Persia was far ahead everyone incl. ancient Greece in terms of religious freedom (the Jews loved Persia) human rights, women rights, labor rights etc. It would take the rest of the world 2500 years to catch up.

But u continue to live in your fairy tale. western distortion of history will be exposed. New super powers are emerging, and soon the west will lack the funds to maintain the historical imaginations they have created.
