FYI, electronic shutter will output 12-bit RAW files instead of 14-bit for mechanical and Elec.1st curtain mechanical.

Great tutorial, do you turn off stabilization when on a tripod?

Nick I just bought my R5 .. now tell me .. the rattle you hear inside the body is this from the IBIS ? Is this normal for these new mirrorless cameras ?

I shoot Sony and still watched this.

Sony folks watch this because this is how a menu system should look lol.

Nick: a question about the one shot/servo button you set up. With back-button focus, if you set the camera to full time servo,. when you release the BBF button, does the camera effectively switch to one shot anyway? Thanks.

Here’s a silly one: why would you ever want to shoot without card, unless you want to get home and find that you have no images! Turn it off.

Hi Nick! Great video!!! I have currently the 5d mark 4 and I am thinking about going mirrorless. Should I buy the R5 right away or wait for the mark 2 to come out??? According to the rumours it is not coming out till 2024… I just wanted to know what would you do…

We all shoot and set up differently, I like setting up my mode dial 123 as acronym PAL P = Portrait A = Action L = Landscape... This way I have all my setting there and ready for what I want to shoot. .. You could also set up P as Video if you prefer... Best Utube channel I found for setting up wildlife action is Whistling Wings Photography He uses all three back buttons for different scenario's on the R5

Hey! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Where did you get your hotshoe cover for the r5?

Hi Nick, now that you’re shooting more wildlife, would you consider a video on those settings? Thanks!

To be fair, I’ve only ever been a canon photographer and have no other comparisons. However, I don’t mind telling you, I’m excited that you’re on the same system as me! The R5! I’m so looking forward to seeing how and what you shoot with what I “biasedly” consider to be the greatested camera system out there. I loved learning about your setup. I look forward to hearing what you like and dislike about this system. Afterall, no system is perfect and I always like to keep a well rounded constructive argument on any topic.

I also enjoy your editing tutorials! This is what I have learned most from your channel and I also invested (turns out, wisely!) in a Wacom tablet! Where has that been all my life??

If I had said all that in a nutshell, but ever moreso you’re a canon shooter, would that have been better? 🤔

You get the point! Keep up the great content! Love your channel! Kaz 💪🏻💪🏻

Nick You are a rockstar in the photography world. I have learned so much from you over the years. Please don't take anything personal that the Trolls say. I thought your criticism of your Sony was well thought out and objective. Keep them coming Bud. Love your channel.

I read somewhere that you were planning to take this video down because of complaints from some of your followers. I wish you wouldn't do that. Your advice is always valuable to me. As a Sony-gone-to Canon-shooter myself, I totally agree with your assessment of the Sony menu system, etc. It's a big reason I went for a Canon R5 and RF100-500mm lens, even though a comparable Sony A7 system including a 200-600mm G-Master lens, was cheaper. In retrospect, I couldn't be happier with my Canon gear for bird photography. At the ripe old age of 80, this camera body and lens could well last me for the rest of my life.

Please keep up your good and inspiring work, Nick, and try your best ignore those who spoke out against your opinions. The rest of us are excitedly watching for new content and wishing you well.

I found this useful even as a 5D MK IV user. The menu isn't completely the same, but close enough. I already had some of the settings, but I hadn't made full use of everything yet and made some changes based on this video. Thank you. Hopefully I can upgrade to the R5 someday in the future, but for now I am not lacking with my 5D.

Nick, thanks for the video. I shoot Pentax, and almost always gain some nugget of wisdom from your videos-no matter what the subject matter is. Congrats on the new gear-can't wait to see it in the hands of a master.

I use cRAW as I was not able to see any difference with normal RAW. I did many tests on dynamic range, image quality,.... , and except for the file size, no difference.
