Don't Get the Base Model M2 MacBook Air

I know this is a year old video....
But it made me chuckle when he spoke about 'older' laptops/CPU because it is so true no matter what OS or Brand.
My wife wants to switch over to Mac. Since our son has done so and has a nice MacBook Air.

So my wife finds an Air online and wants me to check it out and probably purchase it.
Because it was listed at $750.00.
I was instantly skeptical of the MacBook Air that she 'Found Online'. hehe
Nothing that 'cheap' is Up To Date so to speak.

I told my wife that i do not have a whole lot of knowledge of Apple Notebooks but in many ways I know they are similar to Window PCs. (Hardware wise)
Also I said we are not throwing money at the Cheapest MacBook Air out there.
I want 'Future Proof'.
So while working with my very knowledgeable Son I ended up and bought a decent laptop.
I would call it a 6 out of 10.

M2 Chip
16Gb Ram
1Tb SSD
13" Liquid Display (I actually wanted a 14")
70w Power Supply (not the 30w)
And the magic mouse.
All for $1700.00 to $1800.00

It seems like a decent little 'puter.

So if you are just a casual user who surf the web, stream movies, excel and word, light photo/video editing - you still recommend to upgrade the RAM and storage? Don’t you think it’s overkill for the casual user?

Im a coder, i just need my laptop to open coding editors fast and compile fast. Thats all i care.

DO NOT GET IT, I have used it for 1 year and have an abundance of problems, keypad doesnt click (haptic feedback just stopped working) , crashes every time i open the lid, have to shut down and then start it back up, frame makes a clicking noise when moved. Horribly made, have never experienced these issues on a windows machine and these problems are far easier to fix on a windows machine.

strongly disagree. I would say 90% of users don't need more than 8gb ram and 256gb storage. I have 10 tabs open, videos playing, music playing, and never had any slow down. Just get the base if you are just surfing the internet with your laptop.

Is this product ok for a student in college

Base is fine for me. I only use it for web browsing, social media, videos etc. I won’t be doing any photo or video editing.

With current Black Friday BestBuy deals, the only reason I’m getting the M2 air with 16th memory and 512 storage is the $15 monthly price difference over the base. I can deal with $15 more a month.

i am here 1 year later as this has released and for now as a normal macbook consumer i have hole different feeling about this in my country the macbook air m2 256gb cost 944 bucks while the 512gb cost 1400 and thats crazy to me

99% of the people will be more than covered with the base M2 MacBook Air , this is video is not applicable for almost anyone.

Maybe it’s just me but I hardly use any storage at all. I have some stuff saved to the cloud but I’ve never maxed out my phone much less my laptop.

For the cpu and system you get the base model is more sufficient for self study and office work.. If storage is an issue, external ssd are like $100 for 1tb

I got the base model of M2 MacBook Air 13 inch. I'm studying on it and I also own a custom gaming pc so I use my MacBook to separate myself from business and pleasure.

This title is so misleading. The base M2 air is good enough for a lot of people. If you aren’t in the digital content creation or gaming, you don’t need a high spec machine.

I find it hard to comprehend why some professionals try to push their Macbook Air to its limits and beyond, while still expecting it to function smoothly like butter. It seems unfair to criticize the base models when perhaps that is all one can afford. Ultimately, the decision to purchase a new Macbook comes down to each consumer's individual needs and purposes.

Base M2 Air is more than enough for the average user.

Since this upload as of now the base price is $1099, not $1199 so it's something to consider now

So the major problem here is about pricing at $1200, not about the base model is a bad machine. In mid 2023, the base model has been discounted to $900 at best buy, which might bring this back in the competition

I’ve been using MacBook Air for 2 years, the 256 gb version and never have ran into storage issues. I even use the laptop paired with my gigabyte 144hz display to play games. I never looked at other laptops or even M2 because I never thought about it unless this video popped upon feed.

You are totally wrong. The base model will be enough for 90% of people. Dam developers always think everyone needs what they need. Nothing worse than having and paying for stuff you won’t ever need.

imo i would pay the extra money for 16gb from 8gb in m1 and it will still be less expensive than 8gb m2

Wrong. The base model is fine. Developers need to buy a proper Mac. Stop misleading people into buying something 18% of people will need.

I'm probably too late to the discussion on this but I got a M" Air with 24GB Ram and 512SSD. I plan on using it with music software, will it be a good option? I also plan on using an 1TB external SSD

I found M1 Air for $899 vs $999 M2 Air $100 difference which one should I go with? I'll be using it for school and video editing. I'm thinking M1 will have everything I need. But for $100 more will it be worth the upgrade?

I am not sure what's up with the fingerprints discussion. I went to the store and the midnight version was clean. I tried to put fingerprints on it by picking it up in different ways and no fingerprints showed. Are the versions in the store somehow treated for this? Or should everyone else consider washing their hands more often?

I got the 15 inch MacBook Air base model with 512 GB storage I like that you can edit with LumaFusion on it I traded in my 2020 Intel core I five base model I got $390 trade-in plus $150 for being a college student. The computer was going to cost $1500. I got a put $1100 plus I got a three-year warranty, it was on do you $179 I used $150 gift card plus I paid $29 to get the three year AppleCare I’ve been very happy with this purchase because now I got a bigger screen a lot more storage and it’s a lot faster than my 13 inch. I don’t edit big videos like you guys but I do edit on LumaFusion.

August 2023, does anybody here think apple will release M3 Macs on september? I'm trying to wait but also want to buy the M2 pro/air right away 😬😬😬
