Most of us will have had this sensation at some time or another, and some of us will experience it as a persistent issue. It’s the vulval itch! There are many different causes of itching "down there" - and it is not necessarily due to personal hygiene issues or a yeast infection (thrush)!
Don't feel embarrassed to talk about this. It is common and millions of us all over the world experience this. It's not something to be ashamed of. I have lichen sclerosus. I’m 64 and got diagnosed a few years ago. How often do you suggest your patients get rechecked? Right now I go once a year to the gynecologist, but thinking about that it can cause cancer makes me wonder if I should be going more often than that.

Most of the time is toilet paper.

The worst in my opinion is from pads that suck all moisture from the body leaving it dry and itching.

Another cause with the new washers with less water is that your underwear doesn't get fully rinsed. Try putting it thru another rinse.

Ever since l had a full hysterectomy 30 years ago , I’ve suffered thrush & a itchy vulva all this time. I have skin tears at the top of my vulva.

Wow I am so glad to see a video about this. I have lichen sclerosus. I have had to make many changes in my life. It is a confusing issue. The treatment is only preventative. Thanks for putting out this information.

I had a terrible persistent itchiness for 2 1/2 years. I made my own incontinence pads and wipes because I’m allergic to commercial ones and TP. I only wear dresses - no pants or shorts - even in winter. No showers - 2 baths a week in Epsom salts and baby oil and I use coconut oil in tender areas - absolutely no soaps. All this to counteract itchiness.
After several doctors and an obstetrician I finally found a doctor at a women’s clinic. She noticed I was taking Invokana prescribed by my diabetes doctor for 2 1/2 years. Guess what one of the side affects are? Yep extreme itching in that area.
I still do all the same protocols bc I’m so worried it’s going to come back.

Please what does it mean when someone feels itchy and scratches it nonstop until it causes the inner part of the vulva top skin to peel off, and this causes that particular place to burn so much especially when urine touches it?

This kind of itching only affects black people because their hygiene is worse than a wild animal.

I didn't start itching down there until my Dr put me on Jardiance - all that glucose coming out in your urine is a b***h.

I'm having a lot of issues with itch lately. None right now, relaxing, but as soon as I wash with a washcloth or wipe with tissue. It feels so good to scratch but then gets sore. I'm chemically sensitive but had to use products to brighten and remove musty smells from stored clothes. That started it. I imagine I've gotten more delicate with age so it's a combination. Think I will see if estrogen would help.

I love your approach with good humor!😀……just a little mention..of course providing the itch is not the result of an std or worse, I personally found that putting a wee bit of virgin olive oil, via suggestion from my primary care doc, up there once a day helps considerably…coconut oil did the opposite and caused me irritation……obviously we girls are all designed a little differently, but olive oil works best for me….Also watching sugars, denatured carbs, alcohol, caffeine etc also helps deter inflammations…..
