Valvoline beats mobile 1 any day and in real test, that would have been a better comparison to Amazon basics, but I guess he was taking them by price point and Valve is slightly more expensive

What about Real Racing oil that they use in drag cars, it's 70 weight cost $400 a gallon ?

What about the additive package in the oils? The bubble suppressants? The emulsifiers? Actual laboratory tests are the truth. You can get lab tests from Napa auto parts.

How about 80w-90 gear oil comparison? Amsoil makes a synthetic 80w90 now. Maybe also include the 75w90 versions as well, both Amsoil and Valvoline make synthetic 75w90. Would love to see those compared! Unless you've done this and I missed the video?

I just bought some Kirkland 5W30 at Costco so thought I'd revisit these. Not sure if you have been including the Costco brand in your tests but I'd love to see that of you do any more of these. An interesting test would be a top line like Amsoil against a bunch of economy, store brands. Also would be interesting to run the wear test on the cooked oils. I absolutely love your channel. Thanks so much for all you do.

I used Amsoil once when it first came on the market. It was way too viscus, almost like gear oil, and it caused my Datsun to lack power and stall at stoplights. I drained it after 100 miles and refilled with Mobile 1. I never used amsoil again and have no plans to everuse it again.

I use their hypoid gear oil and have run their 5w30 in the crankcase before the car felt fine.

Been using Red Line euro 5w30 in the hot summer and a thinner 5w30 premium passenger oil by Hpl in the winter.

Just started using Evans waterless coolant as a test. After nearly 3 years the car runs cool and zero problems. Does a better job in the hot summer heat. No more blown head gaskets and no more worn out water pumps. The shit never needs to be changed or flushed. Can even re-use it!

Royal Purple has purple dye in it. And that makes it hard to tell how much dirt is suspended in the oil.

Just to think I used to use Royal Purple in the mid 2000s, yikes! I fed into their BS by giving their claim of freed up power and better MPG. Been using Amsoil for the past 6 years and havent regretted since. My Dad is a preferred customer and gets their oil on the cheaper side

Back when I could get it we were using Amsoil Series 3000 in 5W30 for diesel’s in North Dakota. Typical winters were -30 to -40F and the ability to have instant oil pressure and zero oil drag upon start up, made me a believer. They have since discontinued that product, the verdict is still out on the new replacement!

I'm retired, and might go a thousand miles a year, mostly for groceries. I change oil annually on account of oil dilution, so the expensive stuff is out of my range. Good test, though. When I had a used Honda Gold wing, it had horrible gear whine. The transmission is lubed by crank case oil. and Amsoil is the only thing that shut it up.

I think a good addition to the test is to heat up the oil to engine operating temps before the friction test to simulate engine conditions.

As an engine gets older and the bearing surfaces have worn, at what point should up go up in the thickness of the oil. Usually ofer 100,000 miles I increase the 5-30 to 5-40 . Over 200,000 I have gone to 5-50. Is there a better formula??

It would probably better to see the difference between these 2 oil which oil stays on the bearing surface for cold start up instead a cold flow test as it seam the flow rate would mean less oil on the journal at startup and bearing ware test should be done both surface polished to simulate engine journals

Ответить
@charlespartak2435
@charlespartak2435 - 07.11.2023 18:00

I have seen tests like this done a few times and its unrealistic. The bearing is 90° to the rotating surface which in a real life situation will never happen. If it ever does happen it will never ever be your oils fault nor will any brand or weight of oil make a difference.
