We're coming up on the one year anniversary of this series so I thought I would share a little information about how I made this series.
If there was ever a series that pushed me to my limits, it was this one. For two months I spent all of my energy on crafting these videos. The first month was spent writing, filming, and recording and then I spent the second month editing and cleaning up. A lot of the videos were released on self imposed deadlines as I tried to push myself to commit to weekly releases (a personal goal of mine for the year).
This was a huge detriment to my health as the two months I spent working on this ended up causing more stress than I could handle. A few months later, after I made a few more videos, I was hospitalized after not eating for 3 or 4 days. I was later diagnosed with Gastroparesis and I've been dealing with it since. It's not a fun disease and much of the production of this series was marked by intense GI pain.
It was truly a series that felt like I was trying to get blood from a stone. But I'm so happy with the final result. I hate my voice and the voice over immensely so I'm unable to rewatch it, but I love the level of detail I threw in about the PS1. After crafting a more narrative focused series with the great console war, it was nice to come back to a singular system and just do a deep dive without worrying about story beats. There's still a narrative through line focusing on the console, but there's less of a focus on the actual people who made the system. It's closer in style to the story of the Xbox which I think makes for a nice dicotomy between the two brands.
The story of the PlayStation is also the gateway to my next "phase" of videos. As it stands, I've got plans for at least three more seasons of DD and the story of the PlayStation was the most necessary to cover before tackling the giants left. Thank you so much for the support and love for this series! I can't wait to weave a new tale for all again, very soon.
You can never go wrong using FF7 music in anything.
ОтветитьMy parents bought it for me and my brothers when I was 7. They knew nothing about games, so I never learned about great PS1 games like Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, FF7, Legacy of Kain and Resident Evil, until years later when I became a gaming nerd. The games we did have however, were simply amazing and opened our eyes in a new form of entertainment! Crash Team Racing (I also played Nitro Kart and didn't know they were spin offs then), Spyro and Action Man: Operation Extreme all blew my mind!
And the opening to Darkstalkers was burned into my memory alongside the PS1 start up screen!
Solid Snake is the PlayStation mascot for me
ОтветитьI will always be a Playstation fan 💙
Ответить🙃..I Love The PlayStation..🙃
Ответить😁
ОтветитьI know this is an old video but Sony was seeking $7.00 per title from Nintendo's $14 fee. Nintendo didn't want this and told them they would make their money off the hardware and CD manufacturing (aka the same deal Philips got).
Also Namco and Square were previously screwed by Nintendo and they joined Sony. Namco on licensing fees during NES era and Square over SuperMarioRPG. Note: SquareEnix and Nintendo are trying to re-write this recently as they announce the new Super MarioRPG. But there is even a statement from the Enix president, at merger with Square, that the feud with Nintendo was silly and has to end. Square convince 12 jrpg development companies to jump ship and support the playstation.
I love the Sony PlayStation 1. It has so many amazing games that I still love playing today. I remember growing up playing PlayStation 1 with my brother and cousin good times. I love Final Fantasy 7, Crash Bandicoot games , Resident Evil , Street Fighter Alpha 3, and so many other wonderful games. Cool video. ^_^
ОтветитьAnd Nintendo’s greed and hubris continues to this day 😂
Ответитьmate the beggining you shouldt short it out, its like its missing a lot
ОтветитьRemember playing Tenchu Stealth Assassins and I fell in love with the Playstation. Then Metal Gear Sold came out and it was the greatest adventure I ever played in my life. Thank you to the guy who invented the Playstation. All countries should have statues of that man for bringing the world so much joy.
ОтветитьI have been a Playstation fan for over 20 years. In the 90's I thought that the world wasn't ready for 3D games. Sega Genesis Add-ons such as Sega CD and the 32X Adapter had flopped. Then other forgettable 3D based consoles during the tail-end of 16-bit console between Nintendo and Sega, was the Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar and the 3DO fell flat. Then Sony threw their name in the gaming-industry ring. They have been dominant in the electronics and the movie industry for years. When they came out with the Playstation I said to myself, "The world is not ready for 3D games." Many reasons can be lengthy load times, for some, 3D games can be difficult and confusing, and gamers can get nauseous to the point of throwing up. I had the Super NES for several years. When Nintendo came out with the N64, purchasing this game console was what I had in mind at first, its Nintendo, it had been in the gaming-industry for the longest time. I never got to own an N64, but at least I played it for hours at a friends house on a couple of occasions. I was horrible playing a few of its games because the controller was so awkward to me.
I introduced to the PS1 when I played it at a family friends house for Thanksgiving, I played Tekken 3, Gran Turismo and Jet Moto. And I soaked it up like a sponge, because the controller was more comfortable for me, it had a little bit of similarity to Super NES controller. So I hustled doing honest, pocket money jobs to scrunge up some money to save to buy a PS1 over an N64 on August 2001, my first game I owned was Tekken 2. Years later, I became a PS plus member, and it was full circle playing Tekken 2 again.
I will never forgetthe games that I loved with the PS1,.. Spyro, Megaman 8,Monster Rancher 2(by the way for me is one of the most innovative games at that time),Kagero:Deception 2, Armored Core 2, Ace Combat 3 and Breath of Fire 3. This games really introduced me to the world of Playstation
ОтветитьBro your music choice for this is terrible. This isnt resident evil. Why is the music so eerie for no reason
ОтветитьBought a PS1 and Gran Turismo. Was blown away by the physics of the sim. Have bought every iteration of PS and GT since.
ОтветитьBro... You wearing glittery nail extensions?
ОтветитьSome people just shouldn't narrate documentaries
ОтветитьI can’t remember when I got my ps1 but I do remember countless hours playing RE1 and 2, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7 and more. One of the things Nintendo could have done was back out of that deal with Sony. That created a monster lol
ОтветитьAre those your hands? 😮
Ответитьwhat an amazing video best ive seen
ОтветитьJam packs from Pizza Hut is how I played most games
ОтветитьI remember my friend calling me to tell me Gran Turismo looked like REAL LIFE lol. I was already busy with friends and going out when it came out but ended up getting hooked on GT2 and Tekken 3.
ОтветитьI remember buying my Playstation and paying $899 (I'm in Australia 🇦🇺). Back then, you could only spend up to $1000 per day on your card. Games were $109.99 each. I had to wait till the next day to actually buy a game (but played the Demo disc).
Ответить2000.LRT _//
ОтветитьFantastic video
Ответитьno cheats available?
ОтветитьMobile Gaming :)
ОтветитьJeussi dude, drink a glass of water!
ОтветитьThe price nd Lack of sonic games killed the Saturn..
ОтветитьGreat video! How did the Zelda series affect the battle between Sony and Nintendo? I had an 64 and OOT and Majora's Mask were reason enough motivation for me to get the console (plus Mario Cart and 007 Goldeneye).
ОтветитьThe sheer speed with which Sony was able to catch up with Nintendo & Sega and then outright surpass them to dethrone the former as the kingmaker of the industry is simply mind-blowing. Sony was a world-famous brand at the time of course, but they had mostly stuck to the audio-visual realm of the tech industry for decades prior - producing the likes of televisions, cassette players and the Walkman. The fact they went from an industry newcomer in 1994 to complete domination within 5 years is utterly insane - it'd be like if Apple entered the games industry in 2013 and then proceeded to topple Sony & Microsoft as top dog by 2018.
ОтветитьObviously in hindsight we all know that the N64 had really ugly and bare graphics. Even though it was the first 3D console the characters, scenery, and backdrops had literally zero detail. For me though, even as a kid (10 years old in 97) I quickly noticed that the PS had much smoother and realistic details in it's graphics and the game selection for PS was a million times better.
The N64 had countless titles that ended really fast and/or had the worst campaign gameplay in history like Superman. I feel like the N64 would have been just as good with just Goldeneye, Mario 64, Mario Kart, and Diddy Kong Racing.
Love the long video 10/10
ОтветитьMy apologies, I'm late to the party. I recently subbed, and enjoying your videos, so far this is my 2nd favorite, next to your GameCube video! I was first in line for that as well, and enjoyed so many years of that lunchbox, even after the Wii was released, by far one of the most underrated consoles of all time!
Ответитьamazing!
ОтветитьI’m surprised you didn’t talk about the vcd player and on for the PlayStation
ОтветитьHaha the post-genesis Sega creations always crack me up. Although the dreamcast was a sadly underrated and underappreciated console IMO. Few kids owned it but whenever you saw one around it was like "WOW, a dreamcast?!" because it was such a great system for its time and you always wondered where or whom they managed to borrow it from "Let's play the sh*t out of it before it goes away!". Aside from a few failed experiments its library was great too and it still has a few amazing gems.
Yea one thing I remember about the PS1 that made it great was how incredibly versatile it was. For instance having PC RTS games like command and conquer was huge. Yes having to play a game like that on a console controller (God forbid you had the original controller) was kind of garbage but this was an era when computers could be expensive and weren't as widespread as they are now, so having that option was very appealing (Where I came from most kids didn't have both a good PC and a console and usually they only had the latter. In the rare cases that a kid had both their PC was a god awful beast of a machine on a monitor that was way too small and couldn't run the newest games). They made it work as well as they possibly could for a console port, unlike the N64's attempts at PC ports. Starcraft 64 UUUUUGH CRINGE
Ugh that Saturn commercial with the chemo patient wearing experimental rings around their head was not appealing either. I get what they're trying to do but it was not effective lol. I remember seeing that on TV as a kid and just being speechless and not caring at all about what they were trying to advertise.
BTW, great job compiling all the old footage together so nicely!
I respected your story once you spoke about Dino crisis 1 and 2 and FF9 the most underrated game EVER on PS1 , in old consoles they focus about the story more than graphics because they knew it's not that much and we lived really that story and now they focus more about graphics than story because they know everyone is just skipping the dialogues.
You forgot one more important thing , the gaming online on ps3 was totally a new and different experience which just brought the gaming into the next level.
Nintendo now is just sucking what is left of its reputation by releasing remakes on the switch high price games the switch became a console of kids more than adults because their hardware is not that strong anymore and a lot of video games studios can't work their game on that platform due to low graphic support on the console, they have a different strategy than sony which continues with the same strategy which is exclusive releases and high graphics .
The revolution soon is coming by the birth of new leaders the competition of handheld consoles is already starting and sony is a bit late on the show we expected a handheld console and we got the remote play on ps5 which demand a lot of stable internet WHY SONY WHY? if only you released it as handheld console !! as also the steam deck 2 for valve , the emulation on that handheld console could knock down nintendo unless they bring the nintendo switch 2 more stronger hardware to play high graphic demanding games.
by the release of ROG ALLY we can expect also MSI or RAZER to penetrate this market and doing exactly the same what made sony starting their business from a supplier of gaming hardware to a competitor console gaming.
Finally I am happy with competition and the customer enjoys the latest invention for entertainment we want this competition stays all a long so all companies fights to get our attention.
super
ОтветитьAfter offering Gamepass for a dollar for so many years, Xbox could've taken that deal. We want someone more aggressive being head of Xbox in the near future. Phil has done an amazing - stellar job but, it's not enough.
ОтветитьI remember when the Sega Saturn came out, the Genesis was my main console as a kid so I bought one only for it to be defective within a week of use so we returned it and got a PlayStation instead. The first game we bought was Tomb Raider and my dad and I spent well over a year playing the game to see how fast we could beat it. To this day I don’t regret that decision 😜
ОтветитьSigh-Phon Filter…😂 OMG that pronunciation sent me
ОтветитьPS1 means Spider-Man for me. I played and replayed that game countless times. Although I've played other significant games on the PS1 and I've played Spider-Man on other consoles and PC, those two go together like nothing else, for me.
ОтветитьDespite really enjoying hearing the history of the PS, it would have been much better if the narrator knew the difference between a 1st and 3rd person shooter and could pronounce "grand prix" correctly, among other minor mistakes. Keep practicing dude.
ОтветитьWe’ve come a long way
