I used vaseline at some point in my 20s as a makeup remover because I read about it in beauty magazines and I got these weird white bumps around my eyes. I had to stop using it and the bumps went away. Never used vaseline again. But it is interesting to know it is used widely in healthcare.

A "natural" beauty company in my country just wrote a super long email complaining that the government are making them put the full list of ingredients on their products by breaking down the content of what they DO put in their products. Of course that is going to work against them since they have been claiming that their products don't contain this and that, when in fact they do - just as a part of a different ingredient. And she said just what you mentioned; "Now people are gonna thing we purposely put those things in the product"...but they did, they just don't want people to know because it sounds so "scary" and "chemical"

I’m a guy new to using moisturisers etc as I’m 38 now and my skin needs more care now. I’m using Palmers cocoa butter moisturiser which is petroleum ‘based’. All the info on carcinogenic ingredients is a bit overwhelming. So is the one I’m using okay?

You really should research and find out what ingredients are in your personal care products. I used mineral oil and petroleum jelly as an eye ointment for dry eyes when i was on a certain medication and eventually over time my eyes began to swell and burn. I suffered so much because I didn't know what was causing it. I went to 6 or 7 eye doctors and they told me to learn how to live with it and to keep using the ointment or my corneas will get scratched (Talking about fear mongering). I contacted the Boston dry eye institute and they told me I didn't have dry eyes because it doesn't cause that much pain. They referred me to an eye doctor in Seattle that day even though they had a 6 week waiting list. This doctor examined my eyes and told me that my eye were not dry. He examined them and said they looked like raw hamburger meat. He told me to stop using whatever I was using and to see him in Tacoma in 10 days. My eyes looked so much better. I was allergic to the stuff. My aunt can't use mineral oil to remover her eye makeup because they burn her eye so badly. I can't use any person care products with mineral oil, petroleum jelly, fragrance, sulphates silicones, alcohol, or parabens and a few others. Thank God they make natural personal care products or I wouldn't be using anything at.

Buying less products is the thing that's best for the environment, thank you. That really goes for everything, not just cosmetics. Everyone wants to buy the newest natural product, it's still over-consumerism.

Again you’re coming from a very biased viewpoint. Once again your skin is very dry with tight pores so yes petroleum based products wouldn’t affect you at all or as much. Petroleum products for people with oily skin larger pores would cause clogged and even larger pores and eventually acne. Most people that use and love petroleum based products have extremely dry skin.

I sadly fell into the (expensive 😫) clean beauty hype recently and battled the worst cystic (but yet dry) breakouts of my adult life. I'm a mother so.. easy to feel guilted into thinking you're using said "toxic" ingredients in your household. Now that I've switched back to my fairly minimalistic routine (gentle cleanser, few basic actives and mineral oil/petrolatum based moisturizer) my skin has cleared up, irritation gone and barrier repaired so quickly. Don't fall for the natural hype people!

I will admit I fell for it just for a little while. I avoided mineral oil & Vaseline. But thank goodness for dermatologists on YT ! Now I know better. Yesterday when I accidentally sliced by left thumb on the edge of a lid, after rinsing my thumb w/water, I put Vaseline on it & a bandaid. No longer afraid of Vaseline....I have 4 or 5 jars of it around our house ! Thank you, Andrea !

Anyway, what is Dr's opinions on the green brand 100 Percent Pure (American brand)?
On my slight sensitive plus mild to moderate eczema-prone combination drier side skin, surprisingly they almost never broke me out (Restorative Sea Toner/Moisturizer, Luminous Primer, 2nd Skin Foundation)!

And those Jing Si Soap (Taiwan products) too I can see they really work on other people though and their skin is glowing!

And paraffin oil, mineral oil and vaseline really make my surrounding skin around chapped lip grows tonnes of big acnes...

I was scared away from Vaseline many, many years ago by something I heard or read saying how big, bad and scary it was.👹

Then a few years after that, I was watching Martha Stewart, and she showed her nighttime skincare routine...which included VASELINE!😯😯😯

The horrors! Is she not aware how bad it is? She's rich. She has access to the best dermatologists.
Vaseline??

More time ticked by⏰⏱⏲🕰⏳
and I began hearing information debunking the "Vaseline bad" narrative, and I realized it wasn't really the spooky monster under the bed after all.

Thank you for further debunking the "Vaseline bad" myth.👍🏻🙂

In regard to the whole clean skin care and cosmetics idea. I think people are just young enough that they never learned why the parabins and petroleum jelly's and un"clean" ingrediants were created, which was because all of those reactions and allergies people have had to those "green" ingredients. If I did more history I have a feeling we would find this has happened in the past and will probably happen again in the future. A total marketing scheme. So many things in life are money driven.

Also aren’t petrolatum, paraffin and mineral oil byproducts of oil industry? I mean, these things will be produced (derived or extracted) no matter what until we have our oil industry running. But instead of utilising these by products, we use them in other industries

Thanks for the clarification about petroleum jelly. I remember getting these bumps ( cystic acne) only when I used Clinique DDML which is a staple product from their line. I was told it was the mineral oil and petroleum in it. However Using their gel/ oil free moisturizer version was way much better for me. I better leave behind my fear of these ingredients then.
