Ya know, as someone with hallucinations, Sarah was just probably scared because she was hearing and seeing shiz and no one knew what was goin on. Then when tale of her communications with spirits (due to her grief) came about, no one knew what was going on and it was like, ya know, the old times, so everyone was like “DAMMIT SARAH! You got them ghosts!” And then the placebo effect took place.

the reason the winchester mansion is built that way is actually because a fire happened on the estate that caused major destruction, as well as an earthquake. Sarah just began sealing up things that led to completely destroyed rooms because she didn’t want to have to rebuild everything. All of those doors and staircases once led somewhere that has since been destroyed.
