First Look at the Fractal VP4 Virtual Pedalboard - Unboxing, Size, The Editor and Factory Presets

Great and most informative content video as always...However, rather go to Line 6 Stomp XL at the same price which mounts a pair of SEND/RETURN jacks as well as possible allocation of FX block at any place in a signal chain. Only good sales point seems like to be a prevailing Fractal effects..however do you need more prominent effects over those embodied in the Stomp XL?... A serious doubt crops up to me why Fractal release this kind of device on the market for which purposes?...

I truly don’t understand what everyone’s issue with this product is. $699 for 400+ effects is too expensive?? If you want amps get an FM3. This is for people who love their amp and maybe play cover gigs or sessions and want to have a one stop problem solver as needed. My big question is what you think of this compared to the H90 because I was previously set on the Eventide when this leaked

Na I’ll stick with my Helix, the 3.71 firmware was a game changer for me .

But…… VP4 seems like a useful bit of kit. Not too sure how it integrates with stuff. Thinking it might be really good though with an actual amp 😱………. if anyone remembers them from bygone times.

This is totally ununderstand. You can buy a FM3 second hand for almost the same and you'll get the same effects plus all the amps.

A hard to miss audible click and audio dropout when switching from one channel to another and $700? I don't know how those two things fit together in a paragraph.
I think that Valeton thing D-i-gi-t-a-l J-o-h-n is always on about is around $300.
I guess my question is; what is the purpose of this device and again. why is it $700?

Man, you play some of the most crazy beautiful stuff I’ve ever heard. Your phrasing and style is absolutely top notch! I get some of that soulful Petrucci feel from you, but it’s more consistent because you’re doing less heavy badass riffs and just solo stuff. It’s criminal that you’re not more well known.

Bad thing about Fractal is that in 6 months there will be a mk2 or turbo.

This is a product I just have no interest in.

FWIW, as someone who has had fun buying and selling all of these top modelers, Fractal effects are tops. Best overdrives to me are still Kemper, but on effects, Fractal is tops. No debate.

But the FX chain has only 4 fx at the same time? Are they serious for 700 Dollars? That means you need additional external pedals for a more complex rig. Fractal Is now like Neural and Kemper, they are trying to beat chinese competition with overpriced products that have absurd margins...but only for them

With all these new releases from fractal, neural, etc..IMHO i think that they are putting a red carpet to Line6’ second helix generation products (if Line 6 maintains reasonable prices and their free updates policy). I still consider a better choice first helix generation devices than all these new releases.. Best Regards!

For the price (700 dollars), this should have a XLR output.
And for something coming out in 2024 a touch screen should have been included.

just 4 Effects/Blocks? Come on, Fractal. Oh! Or is that the new way of selling your stuff just like others do? You can buy an $150,- upgrade for adding more effects and additionally another $150,- to make them even controllable 🤣. No, I stick with the mighty tiny HX Stomp.

Used just about all the modelling / profiling platforms to some degree and still use big amps. I settled on Fractal gear for modelling - FM9 & AxeFX3 and I think they are both great.

Similar to other comments - I think Fractal have missed a trick with the pricing on this.For me - the FM3 is a short reach from this unit (especially used) and gives so much more. The Helix stomps will also do similar and modelling included and are significantly cheaper. I get the idea of having a simpler 4cm style unit for using with amps / tonex / whatever. Just for me - I would pick up an FM3 or helix stomp to fulfil this purpose.

This is a competitor to the Stomp XL for me, which can be picked up used in the UK for around £300 - 350, make this unit very expensive. May be a great used buy in future.

Well, it sounds excellent and seems to be not too difficult to use. But I do not see a massive advantage over my HX FX for me which I bought used for around half the price of this unit. Nevertheless, thank you for this first demo.

I own an XL+ but am interested in the axe 3 assuming it's the same fx as this, I can see the logic with people's criticism of the vp4s price and I usually go big when upgrading, but seems like a great unit for touring players. I just record at home mainly

I was literally about to pull the trigger on an H90…I’m waiting for this. It’s $200 cheaper, and MUCH more user friendly. I’m stoked for this one. Great job JC!

Went to buy it, spent a good amount of time trying to find its dimensions. Thanks for addressing it even though you didn’t actually give us dimensions, only compared to a boss pedal. Fractal just lost my interest (over dimensions). I was so mad, I bought the H90 I’ve wanted for a while and the strymon blue sky. Fractal is dumb for not including this.

If you use tube amps then the VP4 is a great pedalboard. Cost wise it’s cheaper than buying individual pedals, patch cables and a power supply. It’s also much more flexible. However I use the FM3, which appears to do everything the VP4 does and more, so at this point I think I would not replace the FM3 with the VP4.

I’m actually interested in this product. Might say I’m a bit excited about it. The price will be the deciding factor. 😢 is there a univibe? Can l route drives in front of the amp and everything else in the effects loop?

Man...i dont know how fractal does it. The tone just sucks. Even my katana sounds more interesting edit: ok sucks is the wrong word. It doesnt stand out enough compared to the competition.

I bought a Boss SDE-3000EVH Dual Digital Delay which gives me authentic EVH sounds. This VP4 seems like a Boss GT-1000 Core and a bit of trying to make it look like a mini-me Fender TMP without the extras. I don't see any use for the VP4 having already purchased the above mentioned gear. The TMP is like a Cadillac and the VP4 is like a compact car. A person who can intuitively use the TMP won't like the complicated interface of the VP4. Someone who uses a full size Fractal will consider the VP4 as a toy.

I've got an FM9 at home in my studio that I LOVE, but live, I'm still an amp guy. Ever since owning the FM9, I've wished I could bring that rich sound quality into my live setup. This seems to be the answer. As always, there are many gear review channels, but yours is the one I wait for. Thanks, JC!
