It's easy. You just need to brush a little Dodo bird oil onto your battery terminals before installation. It helps stop all the freezing problems and evens out the voltage. Amazon's all out right now, so just be a little patient.

warmly welcome you guys using the Aolithium battery. Let me know if you want to be a dealer

Thank you for this very competent presentation. I was tasked, to design a multicell charger. In over my head, damn thing never worked, never figured out the FET balance or the tempature feedbacks, just given an AD design controller to use. I quit the field after this as it was for an EMP Paul Allen sponsored high burn very visible RD. Didnt go back. Just couldnt stomach wasting money like this as the company set me up team wise to sink or swim. There were no field notes on these controllers or the FETs that are design standard, like we had in my earlier stages as a designer..

I have a lithium iron battery attached by a dc to dc battery charger. Through this I charge a lithium iron battery which I then use for rv. Battery is far from heat source. Battery is not used for starting purposes.

What about Hybrid cars that do not have an alternator or starter motor?

I have a lifepo4 battery in my motorcycle, and it's been a great improvement over lead acid. It feels a little weak when cold, but running the headlight for 30 seconds first seems to warm it up and get it going hard and starts great.

Kind of sounds like excuses for the bms. If you don’t use bms? What’s the problem? The problem is you were taught that won’t work. If you use it without a bms it’s 12 volt battery and as long as the cable is thick enough the problem is still we were taught not too. I say fuck that in the end it’s the same set up as lead acid battery acid has six cells 2 V each a lithium one would have three cells 3.7 V each. Tell me why not without making excuses for the BMS.

I actually made LiFePO4 battery for my Prius and so far it is doing great after 5 years. They may be better suited for hybrid or electric cars since HEV and EV do not have alternator to charge the 12 Volta auxiliary battery.

Older video, but hopefully still interest in this as I see places like walmart and home depot selling lifepo4 starting batteries (for small engine applications) for about the same price as lead acid replacements.

If lack of BMS and constant charging while running damage the lifepo4 battery (as I understand it, and shown in this video) is there still a longevity benefit to throwing a lifepo4 battery in a mower?

Most have the same issue it seems, SLAs are pretty poor quality anymore and you might get two seasons out of a replacement. A lifepo4 that lasts even three years, at current cost, would save money.

It doesnt help that the pages for the batteries seem to indicate you need a lifepo4 charger. Well, with a generator like on the riders, you dont get a choice. It charges via the generator when riding.

Great points. The application where I think LiFePO4 type batteries are feasible are in hybrid or full electric cars where there is no starter circuit being driven by the 12V battery. Temperature ratings & charging circuitry would need to be addressed. As the various hybrid or plug-in hybrid or full electric vehicles become more mainstream, the value of keeping lead-acid tech in place seems to diminish.

Can I replace my electric car 12volt lead acid battery? My ev does not use alternator.

Excellent update on these batteries thank you. Easiest solution seems to be just replace your flooded with flooded, and be done with it. No automobile sensors, switches, or expensive mistakes to worry about.

On the other hand, that alternator is there, so why not just use it a little differently?

You can. But it's going to cost you. It would be a fun project, as some of your commenters have informed with their elegant solutions.

This problem seems to beg an aftermarket fix.

I presume it would be OK to replace the 12V battery (that runs the LED Headlights etc.) in an EV assuming the the temperature is OK??

What about for EVs, where they are only used to open/close the main battery contactors and to run accessories?

Great video explains a lot to me
I had been considering one of those automotive emergency starter batteries to replace my Home burglar alarm battery because the batteries only last a year or so
but if the BMS in these is not built for constant charge monitoring of the combined cells maybe it could bea too risky A fire risk?
Cheers

pb car batteries are like 200$ now days. can assemble a 16v 80F supercap array and pair it to a mini 12v 7AH lifepo4 battery with a small 0.1-0.5ohm power resistor plus enclosure for less than 50$. add in a smart relay/contactor to minimize the cap leakage current issues and I have a better product in almost every way for a quarter of the cost. im thinking the power resistor plus contactor on shutoff will assure each time I start the car on a cold morning the battery will first dump some current into the super caps and act as a heater. maybe i should aim for something like quarter or half an ohm.... but that starts to mean I would need a bigger cap array.... will test this and make a video, its super interesting.

My dad want a battery that can be used for his automatic fishing reel, so I bought him a 12v/20ah Lipo battery. Then he asked if it can jump start the car, my steadfast answer is NO because it can burn the BMS that only rated for 20A. However, I have been wondering if I add a 16.2v 16.67F capacitor (built from 6 supercapacitors with 2.7v each and 100Fs in series), would that be enough and safe to jump start a car?
