You are wrong about this
ОтветитьI reckon without this game I would never have played all the rest and for that reason it hold a special place in my heart. For context my interest was mainly in first person shooters or action games. This game offered a good middle group between something I already liked and puzzles (brain dead ones) which were new to me.
ОтветитьThis is by far the best review of the game I’ve seen
ОтветитьI agree with the total lack of tension. Except for that baby monster thing. That was literally the most genuinely frightening sequence of any video game I've ever played. I had to pause a couple times to catch my breath.
Other than that, I totally disagree that every area felt the same. I was actually impressed at how different they felt from each other.
The puzzles, I agree were usually too easy.
The exploration mechanics I have mixed feelings on. I get how it could hurt a second playthrough, but for me, for the first playthrough, it actually felt nice not to vonstantly over analyze every single item I picked up. I never felt like I was gonna miss out on something that would totally fuck me in the late game. That being said, I'm speaking from the perspdctive of someone who only plays survival/horror games occasionally.
There was one decision point when going up and around the outside of the castle to go through the window of a turret or across a plank to what I thought was a dead end so I went there thinking I'd backtrack to the turret but instead had a fight the plank breaks and you can't go back to that area. And ironically I had been playing for 1.5 hrs without being able to save and at that point the last thing one wants is to die so I'm desperately looking for a typewriter so I'm not enjoying what's going on. So double ironic when my ocd makes me check out that room and there was a typewriter save in it! That would have changed the gameplay.
ОтветитьThe factory should have been a different game, that way the villa and the lake would be longer and more suitable for the game s theme.
ОтветитьScary how many people think this game is a "masterpiece"
ОтветитьI loved this game and it will always be better than 5
ОтветитьIt's depending on prospective/ perception . The game is good to its not Re style but it's good
ОтветитьBig RE fan but really didnt like this one
Ответитьvery harsh but lots of good points. It’s clear you had a very specific idea of what you wanted before playing this. Which is not a bad thing, but from someone with little to no expectations other than traditional RE combat (slow enemies and little ammo), decent exploring / backtracking (i loved exploring the village in between story beats), and some good scares, I really loved the game.
My biggest complaints of the game were definitely the intro and the story. While I don’t mind ~5 minutes of walking at the beginning of a game before actually playing, i can see why others would be frustrated. But i don’t think that’s anything compared to that 4 minute survival timer bull crap with the lycans. I am not even sure what they were thinking with that. Maybe 1 or 2 mins would have gone over better.
As for the story, I don’t even wanna talk about it, it was so trash.
All in all this is a great review as long as you take it with a pinch of salt.
good stuff
I have to admit the castle was ridiculous doors looked everywhere it makes it feel like a tutorial in a way
ОтветитьOne of the worst games I have ever played.
ОтветитьWell, I really liked RE Village and have played through it a bunch of times and have enjoyed it... But you do make some very serious points...
I didn't really notice how linear the game is, but yeah compared to other titles, even just the RE2 remake, you are basically told exactly what to do at all times...
And yes, the lack of music is a strange choice, however I think no music worked very well for RE7, and is partly what made it so creepy. In RE8 however, it just felt a little empty, not creepy.
Shit game...very let down by it...
ОтветитьCan I just say how nonsensical the layout of the Dimitrescu Castle is? The main entrance is through a side door a couple of rooms away from the "main hall"; the foyer, which should be the main entrance, actually leads to the chapel where you fight Lady D. It's like you entered the Spencer Mansion through the guest house, then the main hall led to the lab.
ОтветитьI disagree with it being a failure but i can see all your points
ОтветитьI think studios are using the worst focus groups (or just focus groups)to inform them on what RE fans want, because all the people I've met who've played the classics on-up appreciate it for its approach and how much more carefully-crafted the experience was in terms of player choice.
I'm not sold on fps for RE, the oddly low-poly objects or examined items was as stunning as the gorgeous landscape and atmosphere the same engine was driving. RE7 earned its praise, mine included, but once was enough for now the 1st person/ tense/grungy/garbage-bag-monsters/visceral/and grungy some more - everything is just so.......so s h i t t y, like someone stuck a hose in the recipe and piped in some raw misery - I agree the visuals are really top-shelf (in most places)but at the end of the day, I'm still looking at a gorgeous pile of trashbags. They deserve an award for rendering the most realistic rotten food gumbo 🤢
😂 that piano puzzle was absurdly-forgiving : it insults even paint-by-numbers. I was invested until Lady D & Castle D were replaced with an open sewer, grunge, shit painted yellow, other shit painted some subtle shit colour 🤔 oh, oh and a human-sized taint who speaks like someone stole half his rpm's and is rounded out by his personality, which is about as pointy as a two-year-old who refuses to nap yet is falling asleep during film-at-eleven (I shouldnt know what that is). He is shit. He evokes pity, little sympathy and it's likely me but when I realized the location after this was a dingy factory with yellow paint here and there and was home to Not-Nick-Cage who is busy, and has been busy from the looks of it, building an army of psychopaths who all loved Slumber Party Massacre..........unnoticed, undisturbed....until Ethan-Average happens by 😐
I should really be doing something like playing RE4r but I like the diagnostic approach you've got - I have to know w h y certain elements don't land.

It purely comes down to a matter of taste, if you enjoy the eerie silent old mountain village setting with the foggy and overcast mountain deep winter mood, you will surely enjoy the setting and overall atmosphere. Only the gun play action gameplay mechanics is kinda dry and boring, no real hit response of the werevolves and monsters, because Village is clearly based on the Resi7 engine where the Bakers and the Molded also barely reacted to being shot with no real juicy splatter effects while the action takes place. A werevolf and vampire setting that is not juicy! I think this should be patched ;)
The strange thing about Village is: It looks like an action-packed shooter with that first person camera but it´s the complete opposite (mostly exploring), it purely exists for the player to suck in the awesome unique ominous and dreadful werewolf-infected snowy mountain village atmosphere and great visual quality.
That Borg-cube-like last level with these cyborg zombies is also more than awesome :)
Village only looks like an action-shooter but plays like some Silent Hill.
Lets be honest everyone liked this game for tall mommy milkers.
Ответитьthis game was good but ill say the same thing i said about re 7 its not a resident evil game. no zombies no umbrella, no hunters, liqours or anything like that theyre just riding on the coat tails of the franschise i use to love
ОтветитьRE 2 Remake is the BEST !!!
ОтветитьHey man! RESPECT for this video! I disagree with almost every point. That said, you made each of your points sensibly so that I could understand your point of view, enjoy the video and find it a valuable contribution to the RE discussion. Awesome!
ОтветитьWhen the dlc is better than the main game. You know there's a problem
ОтветитьI think you make some good points but a lot of this just feels like complaining for the sake of complaining? Like I feel like you could make a lot of these same arguments about other resident evils - even ones you compared it too, it feels more like this game gave you a bad first impression and then you decided from there that you disliked it so everything that came after you were more likely to nitpick and compare to what you consider a good game. It's ok to not like this game of course but I just got the vibe that you started with your opinion from the get go and worked backwards from there.
ОтветитьI’ve been playing RE since 1996, played them all countless times. I actually think Village is one of my favourites
Ответитьpersonally i didnt like the factory section because i just got tired from the entire game. the gameplay loop wasn't satisfying from the beginning and then it got repetitive, boring and redundant. and by the time i reached the factory, i was p much playing it for the sake of finishing it.
and i think that's why other ppl also disliked this section, they're just not aware of the real reason behind it.
great review, love your content
ОтветитьStill mad i missed 5 fishes and can’t backtrack
ОтветитьClearly this guy cant let go of the past. all i see him complaining about is cutscenes?!? Like what you rather a game habe thousand of intel notes to tell you about the story? This dude is so miserable
ОтветитьI thought the story was ehhhh but the gameplay i thought was great it kinda felt like re4 to me because of the map
ОтветитьYeah completed it now, it was gay
ОтветитьJust nearing the end now, I’m new to resident evil franchise I played resident evil 7 and had such a great blast one of the best games I played since RDR2 9/10 for me but then this game I just totally understand this review bro, it lacked so much this game and had so much potential. generous 5/10
Ответитьthe only three problem that im facing in this game was
1-all of the difficulities were too easy for their names except "village of shadows"
2-the lack of puzzles
3 heisenberg's fight (it would have been much better and cooler and exciting if i fought him in his real human form).
In re8 defense the health items go up in price if you buy too many of them.
Ответитьthis guy literally has his panties in a bunch over every new game
ОтветитьRe7 was so good so i had alot of hope to this game
ОтветитьJust got the chance to finally play this game....and i beat it in less than 24 hours. Wow. I am just shocked by how short changed this game was. For every positive theres a negative. I mean if they were gonna streamline the game like 4 why didnt they make the sections longer. When i got to Heisenberg's factory i was figuring that i was only finishing the first 2/3rds of the game just like in 7? Then at the last minute they tell us that Miranda is most pivitol character to the entire setting just for us to kill her right there.
ОтветитьI was also very dissapointed by village. It either had to be scarier with more scarce resources or more fun with better combat rhythm
ОтветитьI liked it. Reminded me of RE4 a bit. I'm super picky but you sound generally apathetic and nearly impossible to please. Not decent but passable? Have you not seen the games they come out with these days? Most are 10 times worse.
ОтветитьYea this guys opinion is 💩 he probably thinks all games should play like the original one but yall can't say with a straight face the original is better and more fun to play then 8 cuz your lying if you do
ОтветитьThis wasn't disappointing at all smh yall Just hate on everything huh
ОтветитьNever gonna take a dude seriously who in a Resident Evil game review states, "Whereas in a real Resident Evil game". You are reviewing a real Resident Evil game. It's called "Resident Evil 8 Village". What is it, a "fake" Resident Evil game?
ОтветитьAs a massive resident evil fan. I felt off while playing this game. I never could put it into words or describe why.
Perfect video, thanks for putting it into words!
resident evil village is goated imo. its one of my favorite game besides 4
