Hiring After Layoffs!? How Does THAT Work??

Totally off topic, I'm currently on a career break and have been looking to return to work for over 1.5 years now. Would you be able to speak on the topic of career breaks and returning to work strategies, views etc? I haven't forgotten my job function in my last role, and I am more than ever ready and enthusiastic about jumping back in. Thanks!

I feel like all companies should have a hire-back contact list after layoffs. That seems like a best practice.
