ZOOM H8 ????

I have a Zoom H2N. and love it ... But I use it to record from my music studio multi - trackers as the destination master,. The SD card is then placed into a computer for loading the created music files onto my onto my blog page.

Does Roland have a speaker?

Which sound recording device can record faint sounds like a whisper?

There are two ways to get more headroom (signal strength before distortion). The first is more bits. Digital audio has evolved from 16 bits to 24 bits and now 32 bits. The second way is compression. Think of compression as contrast is to video. By increasing the compression ( lowering the contrast ) you free up more bits for signal strength. Some compression is beneficial in that it makes listening to the final product easier and is always used with singers.
The least desirable way to make headroom is a limiter. A limiter tries to "turn down the volume" in real time whenever the signal threatens to use up all your bits. It does this poorly, introducing distortion where there was none, and taking away your responsibility for setting the input level correctly. BTW, the opposite of compression is expansion which can neatly drop your noise floor below audibility in post.
The opposite of a limiter in post is a noise gate which I don't like any more than a limiter, as the brain discounts the noise floor naturally.
Marcus wisely skips over an awkward period in sound recording when devices such as the Marantz recorder wrote directly to DVD disks. But I bet way back in his closet he has one.

Is the Roland R07 good for $60 in todays used market?

I had settled for a Zoom H1n for $40 then thought stretch to $100 and found a Zoom H4n Pro for $120 but last minute I found a Roland R07 for $60 so not sure again…

Is the R07 good for $60?

If I want to film everyday life, travel, walk tour to capture the environment and product reviews where I will behind the camera most of the time to do the talking, elements record for game making and I want to experiment music making with singing and instrument too and the video will be shot with a Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder and Sony A7RV, what minimal multi use cases no show on screen audio setups are right for me, should I get just one stereo super cardioid shotgun mic or an omnidirectional audio recorder to do it all or combination of them to cover stereo and mono needs? That camcorder has an optional handle with LED and 2 XLR inputs but the setup will be tall even before add the mics, is XLR necessary and will I able to use the XLR handle on the camcorder as music recorder? The gear I have in mind are the unique looking stereo Sennheiser MKE 440, Deity V Mic D4 Duo, Sony ECM-B1M, Sony PCM-A10 recorder, Zoom H2n, Saramonic SR-VRM1, Roland R07 and Zoom H3-VR.

I also have two Fostex FR2LE's mostly for vocal and piano recordings due to XLR input. And I have Zoom H2N for the field recordings in MS mode. Can not say anything bad about Zoom. Settings are straightforward and sound quality is good. And now I am going to buy DR-10L for the Lavalier mic and shotgun mic. Unfortunately, H2N is too big for that.

You are very wrong about the Zoom H2N Microphone, and I'm surprised you said that. This is an amazing piece of gear that has way more settings and features than most of these, and it sounds absolutely amazing.

I just got the Fostex FR-2LE off eBay for recording birds and I must say the preamps are really great. I also love the three knobs to adjust gain and recording levels. It’s a little tough to learn due to how dated it is, but that’s only a moderate workaround.There’s a few out there with Oade Bros mods only being sold for like $100!

I really like how the tascam units sound, especially for the price. Considering getting a TM-2X which is 3.5mm, not a recorder. But it's tiny, it's stereo, and it's hotshoe mounted. Planning to hook it up to a Nikon Coolpix P7100. Sure it's old, from 2011. But it's compact, dirt cheap and easy to find, and most importantly it has a mic jack. And it's packed chalk full of features, basically a poor man's RX100.

My issue with the Zoom H1 is the 'plug in power' on the mic/line jack can NOT be turned off. So, when you use the line in you feed +2vdc into the line out of a mixer or other source. Which can cause problems. Thanks Zoom! I don't think the H1n fixes this. You CAN turn off the 'plug in power' on the competition, Tascam DR-05/DR-05X.

You might want to add the RØDE Wireless Go Mk2 and ME, as well as the DJI Wireless Mics to this excellent review.

1) No BS just the facts
2) You are not afraid to give your recommendations. This is a BIGGY for me as too many Utubers just show stuff without evalutory comments. So often it is impossible to judge over a tiny computer screen/speaker what is good or bad.
