Wow such a long and full in-depth analysis of Medievil speedruns! Your effort and work is undeniable, the amount of time spent on this is immense. Please do more like this on other PS1 titles!

Fun fact
Following yesterday's fact, Canny Tim is not only the first hero from the Hall to help you, but he also followed you in battle and avenged your (Sir Dan) death by slaying Lord Kardok with his magical crossbolt. However, Sir Dan falls in battle after an arrow kills him, so Tim really didn't avenge your killer (Lord Kardok wasn't an archer), but their warchief/war commander instead (Kardok), trading generals in combat

Honestly best video I’ve seen in so long! Honestly it would be cool if you can do a history video on Medievil 2 and the first one as well and talk about the stories and cool stuff behind the scenes because you’re honestly so great in explaining honestly

The hero Canny Tim you find in the Hall of Heroes, the one that gives you the crossbow, it's actually Timberly (not Kimberly bc her mum lost the jaw and couldn't pronounce the letter K). She changed his namy to Timothy to join the army (some Mulan vibes)

Fun Fact
Sadly, we lost a chapter/scenario in the game, scrapped on the near end stages of development. A chase scenario that actually ended up playing on the cinematic before the Ghost Ship level starts. They actually made the model for the dragon and the level design for the chase scene, yet it got scrapped, as it didn't fit well or felt "fun to play".

Fun fact
Previous to MediEvil, Chris worked on another game series, James Pond 3 (obvious reference to James Bond). Out of randomness, the writer they brought along to polish the story details for Sir Dan (as initially he was just a skeleton in a hack and slash game, little to no reason why) is casually named Martin Pond, and he came up with the idea of a redemption story, to clear his name of any history retcons made by the Peregrine King

During development, the team even went to several graveyards to rake ohotos for the art department. It is said that a priest that guarded the resting lands impeded them grom desecrating the yard with their photos, but the team managed to persuade him by portraying their work as a documentary instead

Fun fact
The Japanese version has Dan wearing a golden helmet. This isn't for censorship like in China, where showing skulls is forbidden, but rather, to preserve the aspect of Dan as a hero and not a villain or harmful spirit or Youkai , as the representation of a skull may recall memories of the Gashadokuro

When creating the first game, they had serious polygon limits, as so, they had to create maps with as few polygons as possible. The concept sketches work under this principle and show the land in polygons, so the developers could fit each one like pieces of a puzzle and save as many as possible

At the end of the game we see a memorial to Mr. Apple. This was a particular green apple that, during development, Chris and the others joked around and glued a pair of googly eyes, a mouth and a pirate hat, said to have magical powers. The apple endured for the production of the game, but perished before release, as so came to be its memorial 😢

Fun? fact
There is a particularly interesting expunged or removed enemy: Uncle Mad, found in the demo of the game in Sleeping Village. While the exact reasons for its removal are unknown (as Chris theorizes it was a sum of three aspects), we can see other possible members of his family: Mr., Mrs. and Nellie Mad. Personally, I think it's because he was the only stationary member, unlike the rest of the family, and seemed more like a drunk abusive uncle than a possessed/mad villager, which could be misinterprated like a dark pun (having an abuser under the pretense of being possessed)

An amazing documentary of one of my favourite childhood game.
But i have 2 questions:
1. Was the speedrun community really that small for the Ps4 remake?
2. What about the Ps4 remakes secret? You can play the ps1 version through the remake if you have finished the game. I clearly remember starting the ps1 version after i beated it. And is there any differences between the emulated, ps2 and the ps4 secret version? Can the glitches be performed in that version?

While at first, Sir Dan Wigginbotom Fortesque IV seems like a clumsy and incompetent general, in reality, he's actually a proper soldier and managed to score and prevent Zarok's invasion before the ultimate fight, as we're shown when reading Zarok's memories, adamantly claiming his defeat at the hands of Fortesque
