As much as I like Naseeruddin Shah... This was a missed opportunity to cast Danny Denzongpa as Akbar. There's an AI portrait of Akbar that looks like an almost spitting image of Danny. He would've looked the part. But Naseeruddin is a great actor, so it's fine either way.

Just saw the whole series in New York and am really disappointed. India has such a rich history, have money and resources to make serials and movies on real Indian history now but no one seems to do it right. Nasseruddhin shah as akbar who I used to like couldn’t even stand straight (lower back, posture issues), he seemed disinterested in the role and lacking in even the basic facial expressions, he’s finished and should quit acting. Everyone else did a mediocre acting job including Rahul Bose who was totally out of character in this series. Story portrayed akbar is weak and indecisive, in reality, he wasn’t. This seems more like a work of fiction than actual Indian history. I saw Whites as writers and director so maybe an Indian can do a better job in the future.
