Looking to upgrade now, my 7700K is still going strong 5 years later, but mixing it with a 3080 is not great.
That video card is so badly limited by the CPU it's crazy.

I don't think Nvidia controll panel and windows settings are optimized since this is a CLEAN install. Optimize them and expect 30-100%more fps in games

When I get the 7700K on the bench and test it properly with Starfield we will know for sure. What I can say is it runs best on my 10900K running with 4 cores. Will also be interesting to see what happens when I turn cores off on my Ryzen 7.

I've been playing around with a 6600K vs a 5600X3D in my main system. It's interesting to see what usage looks like depending on the graphics card dropped in the system. I need to look into the "gpu waiting" metrics that GN is starting to use

im still running the i5-6500 and a gtx 970. im bottlenecking out the ass on both ends, but i'm bidding on a $66 i7-7700k before i start building a brand new rig. if i get it and sell my 6500 for ~$25, it's a $50 upgrade that should solve half the problem (hopefully). i have a z170 board so the 7700k is the final cpu that is compatible. the gpu is a different story. i might actually throw down on modern card and upgrade the rest of the pc later. no 1440p for me until i commit to a new rig

Thank you for doing this video!!!! I have a similar build z270 motherboard, i7-7700k, and 1070ti. My video card stopped working recently, so I replaced it with a RX 7600. It still runs like a champ, but I will upgrade the memory to 32g. I do have a question for you, is it worth it to upgrade the CPU to an i9-9900k or save my money and leave the 1151 sockets behind.

def came here for the tryp in the memory lane, just replaced my 7 year old build with 7700k and 1080ti last month for a new build with a 13900k / 4080 and already feel nostalgic for my old build felt so proud when i built it, and not gonna lie it would play everygame at 1080p ofc many new tittles wouldn't reach the desired 144fps to match the monitor refresh rate but if u dont mind to playing on 50/110 fps on new tittles on low settings it still can perform and usually cheap now PS i played overwatch 2 at 1080p normal settings 140 fps no problem

I still use a 7700k system upgraded with an RTX3080 and game at ultrawide 3440x1440 with absolutely no problem in AAA games. I am only interested in 60fps+ and all my games including Hogwarts Legacy achieve that at high or ultra settings.

Im using 7700k with 2070S. When RT is Off - it still works at highest settings with 2K 60fps - mostly and not too strong DLSS/FSR option.

Next time im changing processor. Hraphic card would probably wait until some next gen cards. Im disappointed with RT On quality (there wasnt big change - mostly only less frames) Next time ill get something only stuff for more frames with Rt Off.

It would be great if AMD would save my old nvidia card with FSR frame interpolation like in DLSS3. I feel there is maybe still more need for GPU supporting only rasterization.

Imo the 7th gen was a fail. A 4790 is almost identical in performance and it's a 2013/2014 chip. Still,it's amazing these are still expensive just because they're i7 based. I sold my old 7700+B250 motherboard and cooler, put 30$ more with the money i got for it and i got me a new R5 5500 and new Asus TUF motherboard for it and it's easily noticeable faster than the old i7

I run a 7700k, 16GB RAM, and a 3070. The rig was my first build and over the years, I've changed power supply, cooler, and GPUs. It handles 1440p gaming well. I would love to upgrade and tinker with it some more but the quality is good enough for what little gaming I do nowadays. In some games, like Forza Horizon 5, the graphics auto set to Ultra or something crazy so I have to lower it a little or else I run into issues and error messages. I think Cyberpunk 2077 was the same but it's been a while since I booted it. 2077 is playable, I don't recall having that many issues with it but I also don't exactly recall my graphics settings lol For an upgrade, I'm leaning towards either a Ryzen 5700X or Intel 12600K because they're both sub-$200 currently.

Just OC the 7700k, it completely and almost eliminates 1/0.1% stutters , my wife's is currently at 4.7ghz at 1.23v and it's honestly a big difference in games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk and so on over the default 4.2ghz

I do need to admit that I am really also still playing on some older CPUs as well. The thing is there is dearly also a lot of "hearsay" that people just hear and repeat instead of actually testing it. I also still do love to play on my 7700k or 7700t and they both really do run VERY well in the most of the games that I do have. I am also m ostly playing up to 1080p and sometimes even 720p because I am playing on a 55inch TV that does support 4k and these CPus and also the 6700k or the 4790 ones which still belong to my very favorites and are blamed being "impossible to use for 4k" which is absoluterly not true... Yes they DO have an higher usage on the cpu and yes todays cpus and some games are sometimes focused on multiple cores as you have said but then I am also seing, that those days it does seem to be more and more "normal" that you cant use games before the first day patches because they throw unfinished titles on the market which basically stress out every hardware...

I personally still have great experiences with those things and I do also have stronger onesis but then i think it is still amazing how well those i7 cpus still are so greatly playable. And they are by far faster than most people give them credit for...

I can also understand that some people have not the best installations and they change the pc and have a new and fresh installation and all of that so the pc naturally is relally a lot faster but then if I basically am seeing benchmarks of systems like between a 4790 and an 8700 for example and I remember of being "only" 50% difference in the cpu hardware and then most people forget the rams, chipset, higher clockrates, faster ssds like sata vs m2 in some benches and such things I think those cpus still do a really great job.

I’m confused, I have a 3080 and a 7700k and I get 60 fps 4k on every game including hogwarts legacy… I don’t see how there is a need to upgrade. I can’t find any games that I can’t max out. I can even run the new path tracing versjon of cyber punk maxed out at 40fps.. I feel the 7700k is just fine until games start forcing me to lower settings.

I don't agree, if you love to play games then your always having to upgrade, but I don't game anymore and my i7-6700T with Windows 11 is snappy and fast enough even today because all I need is basic office, video and web browsings. Saving money now and my machine will last years to come, although I'll probably upgraded when Windows 12 comes along.
