TCL QM8 vs Hisense U8K! Pros & Cons, which is better?

Sometimes it is not all about the best viewing experience. Think about supported software and connectivity. For example, our 58" 2017 Samsung UN58J5190 AFXZA is a lower tier TV with not enough hdmi connections and limited streaming options. If I wanted HULU, I would have to purchase a streaming stick because it's not supported in the software of our tv. Only two(2) hdmi ports, IMHO, three(3) or four(4) is needed. Answer to all of this, UPGRADE the dogone tv. Boss sais, if it ain't broke, we ain't fixin' it! Bottom Line: It's always something! Just my two-cents.

In Europe there is hisense u8kq it seems different from your u8k do you have any information if the u8kq version is a better model?

@stopthefomo I recall you had some connections at Hisense and was wondering if you could reach out to them and see if they could make the U8K in a 42 inch and consider selling it for $500. The U8K (IPS/ADS Panel) in a 42 inch would rock the gaming monitor segment so long as they follow the same pricing structure IMO. Heck even a U7K 42 inches with IPS/ADS Panel would be great too.

I really wish you went more in-depth on the motion handling of these displays. Rtings states they both stutter and I was wondering how they stacked up in this regard.

The QM8 looks universally better in my opinion.. but I always here about the U8K, I think people should be mentioning the QM8 more.

One important fact that was not mentioned in this comparison. The QM8 has a true 10bit panel as opposed to the U8K.

The truth is, they’re all great televisions. Without a side by side comparison, the differences would be trivial. Most end users would be equally content with whichever.

This still doesn't help with the dilemma or the extra large TVs. (98" to 100"). I say this because I think there is a chance that the internals are a bit different in the larger sets. Thanks

The tcl has hdr10+ & the 10plus is supposed to be darker than Dolby vision? Because my NEW 98” S5 s class hdr10+ is so dark when watching on my Amazon prime apps so dark can’t really watch movies .. thx

Im dissappointed you didnt mention
1. The Hisense is $100 cheaper.
2. The Hisense has 2 upfiring, 2 down firing speakers and a sub its actually quite good out the box.
3. It has a 55" option with the same VA panel ( especially considering its strength being low bit rate content, so 55s go in guest rooms).
Hisense at least made up some ground with motion but yea id like it to match nits...

If you guys are scrolling through the comments looking for which one to buy get the TCL because its HDR brightness is way better and the colors are more accurate in my opinion. I bought the TCL and am floored by its color accuracy and contrast, I kid you not it looks like an OLED to my own eyes, I could not tell a difference between this and an actual OLED. the local dimming features are just mind blowing. We are finally in the age to where very expensive OLED's are getting competition from other panel types.

Hey @stopthefomo, I’m thinking of upgrading to the U8K ‘cause I have a fear of missing out on the latest tv tech.

I’ve heard that the U8K drops the signal at times if you use an HDMI splitter. Have you tested that and run into that problem? I currently use two splitters to hook up my gaming systems and would like to avoid this problem.

Was the hisense u8K calibrated before this test?

Seems like the QM8 video quality is better on every aspect except EOTF and processing, especially once you go over 65" since Hisense AGAIN decided to NOT add many dimming zones after 65"... (85QM8 2300 dimmming zonez, 85U8K 1296??) But how is the processing compared for low bitrate upscaling? I'm trying to decide between the 85QM8 or the 85 U8K, looking picture quality mainly.

I got impulsive and bought the qm8. The blooming on the u8g bothered me a little and the motion Control. Now was it worth the money spent? No of course bc when will 1000$ ever be justified when it comes to entertainment . But I will say I like the tv better than the u8g

What’s funny is every reviewer has different findings. First of all people you can’t review a TV because every panel that’s comes off the manufacturing floor is different. Some will get great panels some will get shit panels and I am not just talking about DSE. So you really can’t review a TV. Rtings says one thing, digital trends says the complete opposite. It all depends if you get a good panel.

We need to see Quantum TV's U8K vs S95B OLED! His calibration is off the charts! U8K 55" at 1100CAD is the winner. As in we dont get 55" QM8. Plus TCL just brightens everything just like what Samsung does with its smart phones screens

I have 4 Hisense TVs and 2 soundbars in my house. I have a high-performance model in my living room from 2020 and I have a high-performance model from 2021 in my gaming room. They USED TO BE the best. But I don't like Hisense anymore. TCL will be my next TV upgrade. The QM8 is impressive.

@stopthefomo I have a question for you regarding screen size. I have a question regarding screen sizes, specifically the 83-85" TVs. I saw on another channel that they aren't worth the $$$ because you dont get anything extra. No improved processors, more dimming zones, etc... I understand the larger screens give the slightly more immersive experiences but is that all you're getting and if so, is it worth it? I am highly interested in getting the QM8 this holiday season.
