History of Denuvo - the DRM for DRMs

For anyone wondering how it's gone since the 5yrs of this video upload. Denuvo has upped their game to new heights. At the time of writing, Denuvo has won. In 2022, out of nearly 40 games released with full Denuvo, only 1 was cracked. As of today, there is only one person on the planet cracking Denuvo publicly--EMPRESS, who has her own mental issues. Most likely AAA gaming on the high seas will be empty for the foreseeable future until a new contender comes along that can break Denuvo.

Cracked Denuvo games are the superior product.

DRM only exists to punish you for giving these companies money.

I understand the hate for Denuvo, but as a piece of software, it's pretty impressive.

I watched before noticing the release date for this video. Where is part 2? This video is completely obsolete, a lot has changed in the cracking scene with EMPRESS being the only one left to still have a go at denuvo (sometimes.. eventually).

I don't know, the information is a bit.. weird? It continues to mostly list the releases of cracked games, not adding more information on Denuvo after the inital one.

Every time I watch any game using denuvo, I wouldn't buy it, users don't deserve to be punished like this.

I use piracy to demo games am interested in, since most of em dont ever release any way to see if i like em before i buy them. Steam did a good job with the 2 hour game time refund policy.

I don't give a crap about 'initial launch window's I play it when I can afford it, preferably after denuvo is removed. If it's still on there I don't buy it.

There is a steam curator page that just keeps track of games that use Denuvo and they update the page when said games no longer use it. I usually wait until games get rid of Denuvo before picking them up. The nice thing is by the time the game gets rid of Denuvo the game is already dirt cheap.

Fucking atlus, still no nocturne hd, persona 4 arena, or soul hackers 2 crack yet thanks to denuvo. I have a feeling p3 portable and p5 royal will be cracked due to massive appeal but who knows

Skyrim being heavily modible has made it ridiculously profitable that they keep releasing it. If there was any aggressive DRM with Skyrim, the game's longevity would not exist. DRM basically prevents unofficial patches and fixes from being applied to games that may be needed to run the game at all, which was the case for Fallout 3.
Yes, I am aware that both ganes cited are from Bethesda.

Can’t wait for my 2 new oled swich consoles to become a lagging stuttering pos that needs to be online only to play most of the games. There goes the whole reason I bought the to play on the go. I mean I have an series x ps4 pro ps3 one x 360 GameCube etc to play when I’m home. Ps5 going up in price Nintendo letting this crap on there systems games that’s gonna ruin its portability and fps. Wtf is going on I’m pissed.

Sonic Origins game is what made me look this up. Its ridiculous how hard it is to have this game to run, despite it being based on old games

The only thing Denuvo is successfull in doing is punishing paying customers by hampering performence (in most cases its not much, but the fact that it does it at all is a problem) and the fact that you may have issues starting a game at some point. It just rewards the pirates, the big pirates take pride in cracking denuvo games within the hour of release. Denuvo only benefits the people on the high seas. Now i have to play an inferior official version of the game while the cracked player gets to enjoy a better offline experience and has zero data tracked. If you own a game on steam, i take ZERO issues with someone downloading a superior version.

Tbh piracy is what made me buy games
I was born in iraq and i had no credit card and buying games would mean i will have to buy in dollars which are worth more than my currency so i remember most of my childhood and teenager years i used to pirate games but as i got older and i got a job and a credit card i can happily say i no longer pirate any games .
Also i remember when i was a teenager that there were some games that i loved to bits and I enjoyed so much to. The point were i saved up money and went payed a guy to buy the game for me basically paing 3x the original price just because i liked the game so much and wanted to reward the creators

Tldr : piracy is not always bad and if your game is good the pirates will buy the game

Only if they would still make demos for new games as they used to... But today they release the games in a shitty state, that no one would buy if they would have the opportunity to try it out. They even make sure you waste the first 2 hours on cinematics and character creation, so the refund policy expires.

You need to make an Update to this, it's been more than 3 years

No kidding, it takes a long time to crack denuvo... One day they will figure out that keeping all saves on the server and all save game code on the server only and not the disk its a good way to make it uncrackable... Hell even the NPCs are server side control...
