...Miamians Had High Hopes for Bayside

WTVJ-4's Robyn Carter, the station's inveterate first-nighter, wasn't about to pass up the opening of Bayside Marketplace -- not when it was going to revolutionize life in downtown Miami!

Carter's coverage of Bayside's opening night includes several locals practically hyperventilating with excitement over the new...Mall. Most hyper of all is a co-owner of Bar Balu, who expects "the hip and ingenious people" to flock to his Caribbean-American eatery during the wee small hours.

More laid back: Mayor Xavier Suarez, who evidently wouldn't be caught dead wandering the downtown of the city he governed without a shiny new mall to entice him.

At the end of this clip we've attached a bit of b-roll of Bayside operating during the day, dated April 7, the day before Bayside's big night. Soft open, anyone?
