I just control group tcs on 1

1) Optimize your game by using order queues. e.g. Order a villager to build something, and always immediatelly queue an order to have him collect a particular resource.
2) While raiding or fighting keep building up ur economy growing by setting up rally points from your tc to resources like wood, gold, stone. When new vills are made, they go straight to work.
3) Setup a select all idle villagers key and use it to find slackers.
4) Have of your TC's under a control group.
5) Be consistent with your control groups, dont change them in every game. Keep em the same so you know at all times whats where. e.g. group 1 Scout, group 2 TC
6) Its just a game, try to have fun.

I hate how rts games require at least 100 apm to even be a little competitive.

Just getting back into AoE2 havent player since 2016. This is just the video I needed. 1500 elo was easy back then now I think Im objectively a 1000 or less! Ive only played 2 games since being back so I dont have accurate rating yet, but watching games with 1400-1600 elo players looks way higher level than what I was facing. Back in my day tower rush was good idea.

I've started AOE 2 a week ago, this is very helpful, im glad that some of my wc3 skills are translatable to aoe. Games are weird to compare, AOE feels at the same time slower and faster than wc3. I feel you need to have way higher apm on aoe but the early game is very economy heavy (slow)

Don’t buy food in the fudle

Monks and Relics: I like to wait until my monk is created, then you can Shift+right click on a Relic, Shift+right click on your Monastery. Then your Monk will run straight there, pick it up, bring it back, AND drop it off at your monastery with ONE "thought action" lol. Rather than what I used to do, which was start building a monk, set the gather point to the relic I want to send the monk to, then deal with it when I hear the Relic sound, but this is one of those "harder to screw up" things that makes the game feel better, for me to play anyway.

i dont know why but the waypoints dont seem to work on HD edition. idk why but if sommeone might know what i might be doing wrong would tell me what i should do.

this is exactly what i needed. i play Ranked AoE 2 since two weeks and was always wondering how peopöe do the "select only sheep" and stuff.

I was wracking my brain for WEEKS trying to remember how to select villagers when there were military present and you finally reminded me!!!

Also, learning military/any building keyboard shortcuts is an absolute game changer. I think the rule of thumb for numbers though is to have 2 in the Feudal, 4 in the castle, and 8+ in Imp/PostImp to get the most value/mileage out of that unit production.

I usually double click to select alike units instead of using the alt key lol

I bought it on steam... how can i change my game language to english? Bc the translation for hotkey settings is shit

Personally I use q for all tc then all I have to do is shift q to get 5 vills trained up

just got this game 1 min in and I learned about at least 6 in-game features I did not know about ps, I have no fucking clue how to delete buildings.

Making moremilitray buildings is a simple but highly effective advice. Basically, you are increasing your military production...which shouldn’t be so easy btw. One game that got it right was cossacks, demanding more resources for every new production building (insanely more..starting with a hundred resources for the first building, ending up in thousands and millions for the 6th or7th). It adds something I feel... you need vast wealth to increase the military production of an army.

How do you place so many farms down so fast?

I actually mapped my idle vil and TC hot keys to the 2 extra buttons on my mouse, definitely helped me speed up. Too bad I’m still terrible

I just assign all my town centers to control-group 1.
When I'm adding villagers, I just have to use my pinky to hit 1, and 'Q' quickly and easily

Thanks for the tips, hotkeys are really the most useful to learn I guess. When I play on Hard and have a great start, I always find my opponent to move on to the castle age first and also have an insane army while I'm still gathering stuff to advance, and making units prevent me from advancing.

I just stumbled on these videos at random, and now I’m playing aoe2.

This is a big help. If you add up all the seconds saved within a matter of 20min game play you could have added a total of 3mins of extra command activity...which is a major advantage

It has been like 5 years that I've been playing AOE2 thanks to my dad and I've been genuinely considering buying it. Should I buy the Definitive or HD edition?

I really need to go through those hotkeys. Select all with military buildings sounds like the reason I loose.
