Safari Travel: What to Know Before You Go on an African Safari

Your videos are my must see when traveling anywhere. You always give so many great tips. You mention that there are a ton of safari tours. How do you find one and book one that we know is good. Could you give a small list of ones you know are good? And did you have any safety concerns over there? I know you’re used to traveling but for someone who’s a little apprehensive, do you think it’s safe or have any ways to be extra careful? Thanks

What safari company did you use?

My safari in Kenya and Tanzania is such a core memory, I'd say the best thing for me was booking everything from accommodation, activities, and transport from one platform it made the whole itinerary less stressful, I used Gotukio, and everything went smoothly!

It is a counter-intuitive but you wear long sleeved shirts and long trousers not only for insect protection but because the more skin you have exposed to the sun, the hotter you will be. Alao get local currency. Americans have a false sense that A.erican dollars should be accepted everywhere. They aren't and American currency is not accepted in many places. Essentially Americans, get over yourself.

Yep! I visited The Serengeti, The Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangeri, and The Maasai Mara and Amboseli in Kenya Next door, and you are spot on! I stayed in the Sopa Lodges throughout for comfort (Tents sounded scary to my wife!) Great video!

You can no longer get a Kenya visa when you land. It must be done within 3 months of arrival and done on line.

is safari price indicative of the food hygiene practices? I worry about foodborne illness in a tented camp where clean water access is limited

I just like to say that your videos are SUPER helpful. I’ve visited a ton of countries and I always look at your videos before I go. I think you should look into printing pocket guide books. I wouldn’t take a trip without one. I’m thinking something like Rick Steves stuff - but for all the destinations outside of Europe. Thanks again for all the info!

I visited a Maasai Boma (village) recently while I was on a safari in Tanzania.  I found out afterwards that the Maasai practice female genital mutilation on their young girls usually between 11-13 years old, but sometimes even younger.  This was information I wish I had before going as it would have surely impacted my decision to go.  The more you know!
