Hey, Saturn with rings! That's quite something!

@mycarolinaskies, Autostakkert is better for stacking planetary/moon images (I use AS!3) and then use registax for wavelets.
@Wild Stuff, the video method is often referred to as lucky imaging, you can take say, a 4 min video of Jupiter at say, 60fps and stack say, the best 50%, that's 7,200 frames to stack, this will give you an amazing image of Jupiter.

I have been wondering if teleconverter would help in this case? 🤔 I mean that the f/6,3 with 32,5Mp APS-C size sensor has already reach the DLA limit. So would using (a high quality) TC still produce better quality (because it would allow the planet to be covered by more pixels)? Nice video, thanks!

Using the same lens with my EOS M5 with similar results. From the video it seems that the extra MP of the M6 are a little more helpful, than the 2x converter I have added to my setup.

If anyone’s wanting to get a lens to take photos of planets.... don’t... get a small Mark or newt telescope and they’ll do, maybe if you need a 2x Barlow then go ahead, and if you want to photograph you’ll need to record a 2-4 minute video of the planet being tracked so you’ll need a mount not just a tripod, then download a software that stacks each individual frame for the photo.

If you take video of the two planets, you can use free software to take images from the video and stack them to get a better photo. No tracker needed.

I have a question, I am a beginner in astrophotography! I am interested since November 2020 but only have a phone to do astrophotography that is very bad:/ And I have a budget of 600€!!
I wanted to ask if you could suggest a cam that is good for photography and that is able to do astrophotography too:) Not just wide angle from all the stars but a cam that is able to do pictures of deep sky objects.
I think it is literally impossible because of the budget:(

Hi I’m a fan of your channel and I was wondering, I have a Nikon coolpix p900 and I was wondering if I get the lense you have, will I be able to see as much detail, basically what I’m asking is which camera ”without” the add on lense, which one has a better resolution?

I was trying to take a picture of Jupiter with my Sigma 150 to 600mm but as I was about to take the picture, the camera lens itself starts to move and starts to do this jump up and down and when I let go with out trying to take the picture, it goes back to its normal position

This is perfect as its a lens I will be using on two different cameras a m6 mk ii and a lumix S5 full frame with a sigma mc21 adapter ( I think thats the right part number 😂 ) but knowing its a 960mm on a 1.6x crop factor.

I am so jealous and confused! I have the same lens, and I've shot both Saturn and Jupiter, but no matter what I did in the post, I can not see the clouds of Jupiter nor the rings of Saturn. What software are you using or what are you doing in post?! I tried zooming, upscaling the pixels, and sharpening the photo, but I still just get blurry stars

Still baffles me. I've tried numerous settings and times, all i get is a white or gray dot. Never been able to match this, with the same lens. Great shot, but still completely baffling that the only difference is about 6 megapixels. Ive heard megapixels dont matter as much as people say, but that is literally the only difference in the setup and all i can point to after months of attempting this shot. Hell the first few times i tried Jupiter was supposedly really close to Earth, but never got anything as clear as you do. Got to give you props

I have the Tamron version. With a 1.4x. What I find impossible is focusing: I just went through my 2nd attempt at Jupiter and failed. I tried using Exposure Bracketing, where the moons show in the brighter shots, and trying to get a good shot of the planet at a faster exposure. But really the focus-ring is just too non-sensitive. I ordered an attachment that will fit on the focus ring from China that will arrive in a few weeks, that may help with these "manual focus" shooting occasions, I hope that helps.

This lens is a beast for astrophotography if you get a star tracker and also a teleconverter. (bulb mode long shutter press with the remote shutter button, more than 30 seconds and iso 100), 1200mm on a full frame camera, it works super well with a 2x teleconverter even for wild life photography however for astrophotography, with a star tracker you can even use a 2x teleconverter with a cropped sensor camera like your's and reach a 1920mm equivalent zoom with the crop factor which gets the moon super up close and sharp at F/16-22 range, but worst case if the craters are soft, you can dial back the zoom ring down to like 500 (1600)mm or 450(1440)mm equivalent focal length and still get much closer and sharper photos.

You don't necessarily need a star tracker for galaxies or nebulae. I'm shooting those kind of subjects with no tracker - taking lots of photos and readjusting the composition after every few shots to keep them within the frame. Apparently, stacking will greatly improve the results.

I got the sport e-mount version of this lense and it just occurred to me that maybe, just maybe, I could try getting planets with it. This lense has become the lense I grab and mount on my sony camera for 90% of my photos. It's funny how heavy and ackward I found it for the first few days and yet now: I carry it everywhere. It seems like nothing is too far away.
