Carving a Kuksa using hand tools was Mikhail's dream since childhood, so here he is showing a successful attempt at doing so.

Kuksa is a traditional wooden cup used by Sami tribes. Originally the best specimen were made from birch burr but regular birch wood was also widely used, because people used to use whatever material was available to them. And today Mikhail has a piece of grey alder (Alnus incana) available to him, so that will be the wood he uses.

Here are some basic tips:
1. Use freshly cut wood that is still wet
2. Split the log into at least 4 pieces (more the better). this will prevent splitting during drying
3. Use the appropriate size spoon carving knife, this will help to make smooth bowl.
4. Let it dry slowly.
5. Do not rush.
