I keep (9) Hi-fin Sunset Variatus Platy's with (4) Hillstream Loaches in a 29 gal tall unheated tank. While everyone seems to be happy I find it hard to target feed the loaches as both fish seam to always occupy the same water most of the time and the platy are more aggressive at feeding time. I have the same problem with a 40 gal breeder with 4 goldfish and 3 hillstream loaches. It is troubling as these two tanks are the most work because I always feel I have to over feed them. I do see the loach feed more with the platys than I do with the goldfish, but that is a much older tank? Goldfish have grown rapidly and the loaches have not.

I would love to have a platy tank . Nothing but platys . They are so colorful Swordtails would be nice mixed in with them also.. I have a 60 g with 14 giant danios 1 swordtail.2 angelfish 5 cherry barbs and 4 white cloud minnows. Had 20 but they have died over the years from old age . I plan on adding 5 more giant danios and 1/2 more swordtails for extra color but that will be about it
My tank is at capacity now . But adding a couple more fish won't hurt none .

Thank you. I would of put ramhorn snails on here instead of the shrimp. Simply because the platys will actively hunt them

Will male platies become aggressive toward female mollies or guppies? I have a lone male platy in a 10 gallon tank and I'm looking for a few other fish for him to school with.

I love Amano shrimp. I wish they could hatch eggs in fresh water rather than requiring brackish water. I think in my next tank that i'm going to be starting here in a few weeks i'll try some kind of neocaradina. Maybe cherries, maybe something else. Color doesn't really matter much to me I just want something that will breed and sustain its own population and not all age out and eventually die off one by one like Amanos eventually do. Oh my main fish in this tank are definitely going to be some kind of Platy with a small group of Albino coridoras.
