Land Rover Defender 2021 In-Depth Review - Best Off-Roader?

I'll be interesting to see how it competes with the recently launched Ineos Grenadier and how that model may potentially steal customers away from JLR.

I am sure it will end up in the garage like all the other crap landrover produce...........

It definitely fills a certain segment in the market, but it isnt the same as the old defender fills. I cant see any of the farmers etc i know being able to afford or wanting to buy this.

That’s a Toyota prado land cruiser, no where as capable as the original Toyota land cruiser

That’s the problem with the defender. It’s trying to please everyone. It’s just another lifestyle Land Rover and it’s tech makes it a problem off-road.

I could afford one, but I won’t be buying because they are vastly overpriced.

The absolute most informative and well done review I’ve seen. Well done Sir. I’ve just turned 21,000 miles on my P400 and it’s been absolutely Wonderful. Oh one thing , the rear seats do fold all the way down . There is a strap in the fold between the upper and lower sections. Pull that strap up and the lower section can be folded forward allowing room for the upper back to fold all the way down and seat evenly with the rest of the rear floor. Cheers

Why would he talk in PS (pferdestarke) it is mostly irrelevant to the majority of people. the majority of people use HP or K/W and most would have no idea what PS is. The majority of the world is on the metric system and why i tend to listen to non brit/usa presenters.

Very nice car. Only one thing is very expensive though. Kind of unaffordable to simple poorer people. Only for rich people can afford. Of course it is real British.

I love the Land Rover Defender but reliability is a B*tch.

Fantastic presentation as ever. Not sold on the car though, I'd take a prado instead please.
The one thing I just can't get past is the rear lights. Do I really count eight lights on the back that do the exact same thing, when two would have done the job?

In South Africa, this thing sells for R1,2 - R2,5 million. That is twice the price of the older one when it was new a few years ago, or about the same price as a low mileage Ferrari 458 Italia. Here, the real Defenders are everywhere. You mainly see millionaire housewives driving this thing around. Extremely disappointing really... And yes I know it is capable, but you will not see this thing hauling firefighters up the mountain, or doing anything particularly useful. Land Rover enthusiasts have been left no choice but to move over to Toyotas.

Let’s just hope it turns out to be reliable. The JLR track record isn’t great.

Nice clip, I just wish there was a bit of a gap in between the technical talk and maybe a bit of music instead of the relentless technical talk. I just lost interest after about a third of the clip.

The new Defender while good is not as good as its older brother.
There was nothing wrong with the old Defender, all it needed was a few modern creature comforts added to the interior and they should have left everything else alone completely. The old saying applies "if it aint broke don't fix it".

This redesign was done intentionally as have all off roaders as of late… it was done to target the urban community. No one is building dedicated off road vehicles anymore. There's a reason while the old defender was so popular it was rugged you could beat the hell out of it physically and mechanically and it just kept going.

The other big issue with the new defender is the fact that you cannot put in after market which on this vehicle. Even when ARB was contacted about this they say they have no ability or any plans for doing so in the future. Land rover themselves if you call your local dealership ask them if they can fix one to the front of the vehicle will tell you they can't. I am sorry but this is just piss poor planning and performance on Land Rover's part.

I'm in the camp that the vast majority of everyone within the land rover community is this new defender is blasphemy.

Give m e a 88 any day, modern vehicles are ugly as ....

This is a new SUV, not a modernized Defender. It shouldn't wear the name of a vehicle that earned a reputation and set benchmarks during its time. Give it another name and let's part ways: us, people who love steel chassis and pulling handles, and you, who love to show off your SUV in the city and occasionally have to push 450 buttons to drive on a sandy track.
