Defying gravity would involve the ball-bearing climbing up the tube and spinning off in to space under it's own power... wouldn't it now?
And, (since i KNOW some folks will be reluctant to give up the daft old phrase) - nor do birds ''defy'' gravity when they fly, because without gravity, biological flight is impossible. google ''pigeons weightless'' to see for yourself.
