* FEW CORRECTIONS *
- I erroneously list Master of Reality as Black Sabbath’s 4th album when it is, in fact, their third album.
- I erroneously used the wrong album cover for Jesus Christ Superstar. The one pictured is the film soundtrack, not released until 1974. It should have been the cast recordings from the stage show, released 1971 and featuring Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan as Jesus.
- How many people have been pointing out the albums that I missed, and I just wanted to say that it was impossible to put every album made in 1971 without having some form of entertaining blurb about some of them. I tried to fit as many genres in as I could, as well as touch most of the high points. Also, since I’m a classic rock channel, most of my focus was on rock albums.
- Just to point out that I don't say "1971 WAS the greatest year ever," I say, "WAS 1971 the greatest year ever?" Its to foster discussion. In fact, in my opinion, there are years in the 60s that blow 1971 away. But I did this years SPECIFICALLY because it is the 50th anniversary of it. Next year I will probably do a "1972" sequel. Or a "1962."
Who's Next was a great album for road trips I played an 8 track copy to death.
ОтветитьCorrection: "Master of Reality" is 3rd, not 4th album of Black Sabbath!
ОтветитьI saw someone else comment, and I agree, 71-73 best 36 months. Especially 71-72 at least.
ОтветитьIt was a seminal year for me.
2-3x per day 😂
Not even close. and 67 was the greatest. 1971: Neil Young Live at Massey Hall, Boz Scaggs' "Moments", Hunky Dory, Electric Warrior, What's Going On, Rod Stewart's Every Picture.." Who's Next, Tapestry, James Taylor's Mud Slide Slim, Nick Drake, Jethro Tull, and Canned Heat are the albums I like. I like Sticky Fingers but it has many bad tracks. I have to really like 2 songs to like an album and none of George Harrison's albums does it. Rather hear If "I needed someone" or "I Need You". Kozmic Blues was a bad direction for Janis; should have stayed with Big Bro.
Ответить1972 was the Best to me
ОтветитьMy favorite album from 71 is Led Zeppelin’s fourth album..To me it’s as good as it gets ☮️
ОтветитьYes, I remember…..
ОтветитьIt was definitely a memorable time to be young and music fan. I came from a very small town, and music was a dear old friend. I learned more from music than from tobacco. It endeared me to my friend's. Music saved me from total isolation in a small town. It helped me have the confidence to kiss a girl. To be the life of a party. To relate to my older peers and to generally be a well rounded person that is still alive today, only 55 years later.
ОтветитьBest Albums
1 Led Zeppelin 4
2 Who's Next
3 Tapestry
4 What's Going On
5 All Things Must Pass
I can't narrow it down to 1 year but rather 5 years because it was so great from 1967 through 1972‼️🤔🙂🧐😁
ОтветитьSantana could of used a little more recognition, come on now.
Ответить1972 was rock's greatest year. I lived through it and rock music hit its peak that year.
ОтветитьI was a 15 year old in Australia and didn't realise then, how lucky I was to experience this music. I loved it then but so grateful now, that I could experience this brilliant music first hand, at the time.
ОтветитьI was 20 in 1971. I went to a lot of shows, but the album that stands out is Sticky
Fingers, maybe because I went to Altamont. It wasn't the end of anything.
I wish we could actually Hear the music !
Ответитьmost of this is pop music.1969 reading jazz festival had a better line up than this
ОтветитьAll I know is that I've lived through the greatest music ever made ie. Born in 1940, as a 16 year old kid in56 with Elvis changing the lives of millions of kids around the world ( including the Beatles).
ОтветитьSaw Zep in August of that year and they did Stairway as the encore.
