Do you happen to have any experience with the Ceado e5SD since there is so few content about this grinder?

Apparently this isn’t directly available to us here in usa

He spends the whole video just pointing at the different grinders and saying "this"...but I don't know which grinder is which.

What would you suggest for someone that owns a bambino and mainly drinks espresso? 078s at early bird pricing or the 064s at early bird pricing? I think the lack of burr swap might be an issue on the 078s, but for the same price as a 064s with burr swap I can get a better build quality, better motor and bigger burrs on the 078s.

I probably won't be buying any grinders in the future after I get this one.

If someone is interested, you might still be able to get the 064/064S right now for $349 as of 7/18/2023 (read below). Not as good as $299 price but still better than full price.

What is weird is that TimeMore has an Indiegogo project to get more backers right now. That show up as $449 USD price but on my phone (chrome mobile browser), I had a "Secret" perk option. That is literally what they called it and showed price for $349, I backed it immediately and got a confirmation for that price. Then I tried to find it again on my computer that hasn't logged on to Indiegogo ever, and I can't find that "secret" perk anymore. Not sure if it was a one off thing, but I saw there was 4 claimed, so I assume there are others that also found it. Good luck to those interested!

Hey Lance, thanks a lot for your review and input. Also appreciate you taking the time to tell us how much effort and $$ you put in to be a trustworthy reviewer. I'm still on a Breville Barista Pro grinder, and felt it is what is causing a lot of the inconsistent shots so I am looking around for a good budget grinder. I am very glad you covered that the 064 will definitely be a good upgrade, plus I get to try pour overs with it. A question though, between the 064 vs 064S, if I am mainly making expresso say 90% of the time. Would a 064S be better pick than 064? I know in your other video, you said you preferred the taste of the 064 since its more balanced.

hey Lance, there is something I didn't get from this video. Not to say its not comprehensive, it is!

You said the the 078 is an anomaly and that you really liked the filter from it.
You also said that you were disappointed that the 078s is not a step up for espresso as 078 is for filter.
I understand both of those, and great points of reference.

Now the missing information is: how much worse is the 078s for filter than the 078 is?
For us who are trying to choose a multi-p grinder (filter now + espresso in near future), should we be afraid of the 078s's filter?
It would be really helpful if you can give it a number out of 10, saying that 078 is 10, what would 078s filter be?
(I know that taste is preferential, but as an addendum to your video, and 078 as a frame of reference).

I'm wondering how much Lance's positive impressions of the 078 vs the others come down to variability with the build quality. Like, the 078 he got was super well dialed in and the others were not. Or, has he tested multiple versions of all of these grinders?

I'm currently using a Breville Smart Grinder for drip and a Baratza Sette for espresso. I backed the Sculptor 078s to use for espresso and I'll probably migrate my Sette to drip usage. Really excited to give it a try when it arrives.

I backed the 078S, and wrote them an email if I can add the turbo burrs, so I can swap it like on the Niche Duo. They told me they will supply it with time more retailers for maintenance purposes, but don't recommend changing burrs on your own. Could it be due to how complex it is? Hey Lance, (I posted this on your other review video forgetting you had a more recent video and though it was more appropriate here since you addressed the fact that the burr sets were interchangeable).

I asked Timemore if I could get the 078S body and use the turbo burr set (because I want stepless). They advised that because the turbo burrs combine flat burrs and 2 rows of "shark teeth" that in the 078S body they would bite each other because of the small tolerances.

My question is, would there be a way to mitigate this risk, for example not going below a certain depth?

This is exactly what I needed to hear. As a European it is hard to get an option-o, timemore or varia if you dont want to overpay (import taxes + shipping). The eureka's on the other hand are widely available. I just started getting into espresso, so I will be going with that for my first grinder. Thanks Lance for sharing your honest opinion!

I just ordered the df64 today.. because I heard reviewers agree it outperforms other 64 mm flat burr grinders at the price. But now I’m wondering if I should have gotten the turbo timemore 64 instead.

I got the 078S, starting to think that I should switch to the 078 🥲

First electric grinder, coming from a 1zepresso. Paired with a laPavoni Leaver. Should I go for the 64s or spend 180€ more for the 78s? Thoughts, is it worth it? I mostly drink milk drinks but wanna try out more modern espresso.

You forgot the DF83!!! Need one grinder to rule them all, DF83 or Timemore 078s!

My takeaway personally is that it will likely push someone to bring a 83mm burr grinder in close price competition to the Sculptor 78. Great times for consumers with a bit of patience 🙂

Thanks for all your in depth reviews tear downs, Lance. I've had the Baratza Virtuoso+ for a few years and have been feeling stuck with the quality of filter brews for a while now. It was previously noted that the paint of 64 black is not of good quality, is this also true with 78?

You are doing the lord's work with this matrix of comparisons, and it's hugely helpful... but I do wish that next time you run down a comparison between grinders that look so similar, you would name them specifically. It was a bit hard to keep track of the 078 and 078S being called "this" and "this", respectively.

For filter coffee, do you typically prefer a hand grinder or electric? If that's too broad of a question, let's say I'm shooting for clarity over everything else. I'm currently running a Super Jolly with MP SSPs for electric, and I just purchased a ZP6 (my very first hand grinder).

I drink 80% espresso and 20% filter coffee, both with light roast. Longevity is very important issue for me. Should I prefer buying 064s+zp6, or just 078s?
Or, how big is the difference between the 078s and the 064s in terms of quality, and how (just from your general knowledge about grinders’s longevity) it will affect their longevity?
