I went to a performance by Ryosuke Kiyasu in Cologne yesterday after being strangely fascinated by his style for a few years, especially from short clips. I couldn't explain what was behind it, I only ever saw silly clips with tables and seemingly uncontrolled movements.
In short: it was exactly the opposite. Not for a moment did it seem silly or absurd to me, nothing was uncontrolled, Kiyasu played the drum more accurately than I had ever seen anyone do before. Over the long haul, everything suddenly made sense. He becomes one with the instrument and channels his energy into the drum with outstanding technique. He uses techniques that I have never seen drummers use before. Arms, legs, the body in general. The snare drum as a partner and as an opponent. Technically outstanding, virtuously played, direct, raw. I am still very impressed. My highest respect to you, Mr Kiyasu!

A friend of mine posted a clip of this performance to facebook with some snarky comment about it not being music. I immediately tracked down the full thing. I love this shit. If you ever come to the states, I'll come see this...even if I have to travel a bit.

Ryosuke is a drummer of grindcore band from Japan which is Sete Star Sept. This is called noise art and not for kids who can't appreciate arts. People who dislikes this video must be some kind of pop music fan. Sorry not sorry
