Nice review and it was quite helpful as I am hoping to get a Sennheiser Me66 Mic in the next month or so, and after seeing this review, I will be getting a Super Softie for it as well.

I just got this a couple of weeks ago to use with my Sennheiser ME66 and Tascam DR-100 MKII and I did a few tests with it on and off the microphone outside on a very windy day.

I had the Tascam recorder gain switch set to H (High) and the gain dials set to 0 and I didn't have any low cut filers on. I first tested the mic and recorder with the windjammer of. The recorder peaked at -6db and when I tried recording my voice, it was getting almost drowned out by the wind noise with some almost crackling sounds from the wind noise.

The second test, I put on the windjammer. I noticed straight away that the Tascam recorder (same settings used) was peaking between -20db and -16db so between 10db and 14dbs quieter.

When I did my voice test, I noticed that my voice came out much better than it did with the windjammer of and it and I didn't hear much muffling of my voice that I have noticed with other windjammers I have used. If there was any it was only slight. Also the wind was noticeable (if it removed the wind noise, it would affect multiple frequencies), but it sounded fine and you could hear my voice clearly with no distortion and not much wind rumble noise.

This is the kind of quality review that is so lacking elsewhere. Thanks.

Hi, which is the correct Rycote Super Softie size for the Rode ntg5?

I feel like the rycote may block more noise in the low frequencies but it also made more of a "spike" in the frequencies that the noise was still present in. You can cut or attenuate lows and keep the vocal range more or less intact but if there is a spike in the wind noise in the vocal frequency range, then its true that the noise that is present would overall be lower, but it would actually be more obtrusive and less able to be remedied. Idk, something i was thinking about. Its a trade off and then a judgement call like everything i guess. That counts more for steady wind and not big gusts though.

I would prefer the old Softie more, the super softie isn't really all the convincing of the improvements.
