Lets see.... So 6000 men but its less than half the army so assume roughly 10'000 would make up half the force so that's about 20'000 riders that Theoden was hoping to rally.

I wish they'd included the wild men and their stone heads. The only way the rohirrim made it to the battle in time was because of their scouts. I like that even uncontacted tribes were united against Sauron.

I love Theoden’s smile before nodding when Aragorn says they must ride at dawn.

He’s seeing the king Aragorn will become and recognizing him as an equal. It’s a shame Theoden didn’t survive to see Gondor reborn under a new golden age.

Theoden had many moments where his hopelesness almost prevailed and turned into despair.

He has to ride to Pelennor with 6000, less than half of what was expected, which means he expected 13.000-plus just in cavalry? That is a huge force. Makes you wonder how Saruman and Grima perfectly executed their delaying and espionage tactics, so that Helms deep almost fell and a charge of 2000 Rohirrim broke the siege. Now imagine 13.000 Rohirrim in open field against a 10.000 strong Uruk army, it would be a slaughter.

That shows that even if Saruman managed to defeat Helms deep and slaughter the population of Edoras there, still he would be facing Rohirrim at about 13.000 strong cavalry and who knows how much more infantry. So this was was far from over and likely Saruman would withdraw under the walls of Orthanc and await Mordor forces.

If 6000 is less than half of what theoden King has hoped for, what has he originally hoped for??

I wonder, if Rohan can muster 6,000 men over two days, what's their full fighting strength?

I love this scene, it have so great medieval climat, and amazing music (especially begining)

Six Thousand is lest than half of what Theoden expected ... so Theoden confident that he can gather Twenty Thousand armies and in the end only go with Eight Thousand to Gondor.

That mountain would be well known to Eomer and the noblemen of Rohan, I'm not surprised he calls it evil. In the book the trio finds the skeleton of a dead man of Rohan, in the appendices it mentions that a prince a long time before the time of LOTR went there to prove his strength and never returned

19 years, myriad viewings, countless times pausing and rewinding, yet this is the first time i've been able to discern what aragorn saw in the cleft.

Considering Theoden said “more will come” it insinuates he thought there was more time to gather his forces. Which also means he might not have included their departure time in his call to arms. Which in turn means its highly possible for thousands of riders to have arrived after they left and either had to double time to catch up with Theoden or simply wasted days of travelling and had to return to their holds 😳

The young will NEVER understand Theoden. Theoden, by this time in the trilogy is a dead man, saved. Every moment is extra-time with which he will do whatever he can for those he loves most. Not a thought for himself; he does not care for himself at all and seeks death via an end to bring good to others and has found it. He is in many ways a content man from this point onward in the movie imo.
