How to add an alias in Gmail in 2024? (a complete beginner's guide)

This is very helpful! However, I am running into an issue with the verification process. When I go to log in using the new email address, Google is saying it's an invalid email address and I cannot sign into that secondary account. Not sure what to do if it's not recognizing the new email address.

This method doesn't work like this anymore. Next screen is SMTP Server/User Name/Password. And there is no way around it. What if you are using Godaddy email forwarding?

I'm having a really hard time setting up an alias, because as soon as i input all the smtp information and hit 'next' it cycles back to my inbox. Any solutions?

it totally useless, its not adding alias to current gmail, its adding another email address that you already own. The title is misleading.

This "alias" solution works in 2023.aug only when you want to have couple (2-3) aliases, because every "alias" - as described in here, needs a real account but there is the big BUT. While creating an account you have to verify every account with your phone number and one phone number can be used only once. So if I want to create approx 20 aliases, you have to have 20 accounts with 20 different phone numbers and that's not usual to have 20 different numbers.

Tried last week, and there was not possible to create account while not verifying it with your phone number. Maybe it is region based "feature" or rule (tested in east-europe) can't answer or confirm that.

So can you only add another gmail address? I have a business address that I want coming over to gmail so its in one place but this is not working for me. I got the point where the yellow box appears and it asks for a password. What password do I put in?

So every time I click on "Next Step" it takes me to a box where it's asking for a passcode. It doesn't give me the "Verify Your Email Address" box. The company I'm working for setup the alias. When we tried adding the passcode they gave, it didn't work. Not sure what I or the other person is doing wrong. I'm trying to set this up so others have the alias, but my main email address receives the emails and I can also respond via the alias. Am I making sense? Can someone help? Thanks.

Hey I would like to know if there is any difference between "Add another email adress" , "Add an email account" and "Add another account" ? My primary goal is to manage different profiles on social media and present myself as so to the public. Also with the possibility to view, send , receive mails from only one address (profile) , from several addresses (profiles) or from all addresses (profiles) . I think people are assuming that you can create AND add a gmail alias at the same time the way iCloud does. Apparently you have to create a second gmail address first and then you follow these instructions to add it as an alias.

thanx for the info. what should be the password for the newly created alias., because when i put the password of my main gmail while trying to verify the alias , it says the password is incorrect but when i try that password in my main gmail it is still correct. what am i not understanding here?
