I have tried installing this, but after running makepkg and getting the name of the file that makepkg produces (aura-bin 3.2.7-1), it says 'target not found'
What is the name of the file it produces? The console says:
```Finished making: aura-bin 3.2.7-1```
I disagree with the 2nd def. I love arch linux and have installed it many times. but manjaro dpkgs are way better
Just tried this out. After attempting to run sudo aura -Au, I just get this message: aura >>= As of makepkg v4.2, building as root is no longer possible.
So, I guess I'll try starting with Aura instead of pacman next time I clean install arch...
"Don't worry about Haskell."
250+ MB of useless archives, so I can skip one step in installing AUR packages.
The problem of AUR is lack of security.
Been through that before with pacaur etc. Then I settled with yay so far. But aura seems to look like a nice alternative. Thanks for the callout!
DT never reviewed Qubes OS, did he? I´d love to see him try to live with it for a while and -most of all - trying to make it work with a tilling WM.
FYI on paru you can remove an aur package and it's dependencies using -c/--cascade option
As a normal user, why would I install Arch Linux by taking up considerable amount of my time when I can install the same thing with some minor differences without going through all the tedious command lines process? Manjaro is very forward setting up and getting started right away.
Actually, I'd challenge you on your system being "bloated" because there's a lot of packages. As you say, it comes from all those windows managers and their dependencies. But that is not bloat - that is stuff you are actually using. My own system has 1162 packages, and it is bloated. Because I know a good chunk of that is actually stuff I am not using and I should get around to cleaning that shit up. :P
Just to react to the notion that "lots of stuff = bloat". It's only bloat if it's not useful. :P
(Then again, I also suspect that I have one of the most unbloated Gnome sessions on the planet after the fanatical cleaning session I put my systems through to get it down to BSPWM-level RAM usage. :P There's just a whole lot of other random garbage I should clean up after random saturday tinkering session number 422...)
I been using aura for well over a year now. Been really good so far. I use aura-bin and compile my own xmonad with stack. I develop in Haskell and avoid the arch Haskell packages just due to size and conflicts.
This snapshot feature makes me wonder if a config-file-based AUR package manager exists (a bit like NixPkgs, but for AUR). Could be very useful for dotfiles
Hey DT,
The problem with Haskell is it has too much dependencies not that it has dependencies. When installing aura it has 100+ dependencies.
