If I had the money we could design the PSR-SEE-E463. Those were GREAT ideas. I can also see a problem with the sample zone images that I cannot see without my glasses or standing back and bending down to see them. Could they backlight them with LED?

Your comments make total sense. Perhaps Yamaha left off many of these recommendations because they need reasons for people to purchase the S series or the E series, I'm certain they must be aware of these issues.

Here are three more missing items that you did not include in your video that are very important: #1. Five pin midi (in/out). #2. SPDIF in/output digital audio (left/right). #3. Dedicated analog 1/4 inch line level audio outputs (left/right)......We need more options for recording !!!!! ... #1 (5 pin midi) allows us to hook this up to an external audio interface in the recording studio when sending midi back and forth from a midi arranger in a Digital Audio Workstation to trigger voices/sounds/instruments in the keyboard when recording. Plus, If we use the USB to send midi and/or audio to the studio computer for recording, we must select the keyboard as an audio interface instead of using our dedicated studio audio interface (this is a bad idea due to how drivers work). Plus, did you know that there is no way to daisy chain USB midi devices without a dedicated converter box (five pin midi is not like USB, you CAN daisy chain five pin midi devices if needed)... #2. (SPDIF) will allow for clean, perfect digital audio to be transmitted to a dedicated audio interface that has SPDIF when recording. However, If USB is used for audio instead, we no longer can use our dedicated studio audio interface to receive the audio. We are stuck having the keyboard being used as an audio interface instead due to how drivers work (again, another bad idea for professional uses). #3. (dedicated analog audio line level outputs) This allows for high quality audio to be transmitted out the keyboard when needed. You can currently use the headphone jack to send the audio out of the keyboard to the studio's audio interface, but to the best of my knowledge, the headphone jack is designed to power the speakers in headphones (amplified) and is not designed to send audio at "line level" signal for best audio recording (I need to check the specs to be sure here). There is a device (hardware) that you can purchase that will convert the USB midi to standard five pin midi that will allow this keyboard to be driven by dedicated studio audio interface that has five pin midi input/output, but you still have to send the audio out of the headphone jack to the studio audio interface (no dedicated line level output for professional recording). It is very sad that these people who design these keyboards are not creating a product that is very flexible for use in professional recording studios. This means that Yamaha has failed here to create a great product. Why spend money on a useless product unless you are buying this keyboard because you want a "toy"... Sorry Yamaha, you FAILED big time !!! I returned my PSR-E463 to the dealer... Save your money until Yamaha wakes up and creates a useful quality product. This is a shame because the voices/sounds in this keyboard are very nice, but this keyboard lacks many of the required features that would make this keyboard a truly top notch product that stands above all the rest. But, Yamaha has failed in this department.

Hi Jeremy. I mentioned my main complaint in a previous review from you. It was a pitch modulation that sounds like a phaser in the bass notes of folk guitar samples that goes back to the early models of the 400 series psr e. I returned the keyboard and bought a used psr e453 which has the same issue but for a lot less money. Watching your casio reviews that did not allow any modifications to split and dual voicing and also attempting to play Toulouse Street and using split and octave functions a light came on for me. Solution. Split using classgtr on the split with octave change and folk guitar above the pitch drop notes. Using more reverb on the classgtr it thins it enough to be a good enough match. So from bottom to top range it sounds good enough now. Will have to save in a registration for non electric guitar songs. Casio do not have the bass pitch problem but dont sound that good in a lot of tones and the keys are usually flimsy. I might go buy back another 463 now because it has a much better rotary effect imo than the 453. Thanks for your videos. I hope Yamaha takes notice. It sould be easy to replace the Folk Guitar sample going forward. My MO 6 has no pitch issues so they can do better. When I play piano sounds I just leave the function on main octave that way when I hit function it is a quick up or down change. Would not work with layered sounds though as you noted. guess necessity is really the mother of invention.

Jeremy, you forgot to mention one more bad thing, and it is that the PSR-E463 only has thirty demo songs when it should have at least 200, since it is a more advanced keyboard within the E series. Some other Yamaha keyboards have 100 demo songs, including those made popular by famous people like Billy Joel, the Beatles, and Elton John, so Yamaha should’ve included those songs in the PSR-E463.

Hi Jeremy! My mom finally agreed to buy me a new keyboard!! I've been rooting on this as well as the PSR-EW410. Did Yamaha announce (officially) that there will be a later version of this series coming out? Say PSR-E473 or any PSR-EW with 72 keys? So I know if I should just be patiently waiting till it's out on the market. Anybody who will answer will be a big help. Thank you~ <3

I have found an annoying behaviour related to the DUAL function: when you tune the DUAL voice keeping the its button pressed, this is only valid until you change the main voice assignment. I mean if I want to keep my setting of DUAL voice with another main voice I cannot do that unless setting back the DUAL one. Is there a way out for that?

Additional big limitations from my test on this Keyboard:
1) you cannot use the sample voice (n. 759) more than once in a song, that is if using that voice on track 1 you cannot use it again in track 2.
2) the sequencer is pretty ok but only linear: it could be very very useful if having a small pattern recording functions, so as to create 1 or 2 measure loops and play above it.
3) you cannot play a song and transfer it onto audio to USB. When the song is complete the only think you can do is save it as MIDI FILE or User Information. No wave from a User Song to USB
4) again on sampler: keyboard is divided in different areas that can be assigned with different samples ; that's ok. But it's not possible to use the whole keyboard for the same sample, which would be really more usable if you load a sound sample to play.
5) Groove creation i totally useless as it is. You can only play majior chords while it runs. It seems kinda a predefined songs that can be somehow remixed. The only minimal aid is that you can record on A track starting from the groove rhythm: so you can mute all the tracks except the drum and start a recording in groove mode; you can change the groove type to build up a sequence pf rythm. after stopping the recording you will have the PSR E463 switching to song mode with the rhythm in the track A (including the change of the live knob if used). then you can over record all the other tracks with instruments.
6) 48 notes polifony is really, really few. Similar gear in the price segment have 64 at least.

of course these are only a personal evaluation, if anything would be wrong in the above descritpion i'd be more than happy to get a solution. Cheers

I want to like this keyboard, but until Yamaha can fix their ridiculous midi standards for PSR keyboards, I'll never buy one. Seriously, my earliest Casio keyboards all spanked the PSR E463 and EW410 for midi applications. I owned those keyboards over 25 years ago. The PSR E463/EW410 sound great, but calling them 16 channel in/16 channel out midi keyboards is a deception from Yamaha's marketing department. The PSR E463/EW410 are ok as toys for doodling, but serious midi programmers will be very disappointed.

Yeah it sucks to have only one intro, and usually it is 4 or 5 bars long. On Yamaha PSR28 I also had 1 intro, but it was I think only 1 bar. I could live with ending 4 bars long, but would appreciate being shorter. I wish updated E series had intros and endings selectable length/type in menu, or dedicated buttons for that. But more buttons are found in PRS S keyboards.

Thanks for your video, Jeremy. As always, very useful!!. I've this keyboard and I'm very happy whit this, but the worst thing for me is the behavior or de "autofill button". So, when you use this, always alternates between A and B. I've discovered that if you push two tiimes the button, it mantains A or B, but it's so dificult. I'd like to choose mantain A or B after. using "autofill button". Best regards!

My career was in firmware development. I have a lot of ideas for an ideal arranger keyboards. However, never seen one. So we all have to make do with what we have at hand.
One simple example: RITARD to smohtly slow down accomp. music, then aTEMPO to go back to original tempo.
With registrations, I can save reg#1 to be style#1 with tempo 60 for example, reg#2 to be style#2 with tempo 100, etc... During live play, I need to push the correct reg. button to activate the desired styles in the song. This requires setup ahead of time for a particular song that demand this sort of complexity. And this set of registrations has to be saved (usually under the name of the song for easy retrieval). KORG keyboards use "performance" for the same goal, but KORG also has the option to "freeze the style" when changing "performance".
Bottom line: figure out various "work around" to work around the limitation of an arranger.

Jeremy, would you give input on problem construction issues with Yamaha PSR keybuards. Specifically, I have had certain internal breakdown of keys on various PSR keyboards. I have four of them. One problem is I use these keyboards professionally, playing live shows, and sone songs I play hard.. Perhaps it is too much stress for these relatively inexpensive keyboards. I repair these keyboards myself (opening up the keyboard, and soldering the broken joints and connecting rods and pins). Is there an alternative repair shop that you could refer? Expert repair would probably cost as much to buy a new keyboard. 😣 - Doc from Dallas TX
