The Maid of Orleans was burnt at the stake for a lesser offence by the English
ОтветитьI honestly don't know why Mary behaved like this - it's something I've often thought about. In essence she was a kind person - she tried to protect her younger 1/2 sister Elizabeth from Thomas Seymour's machinations and she was loved by her ladies in waiting (unlike Elizabeth who boxed their ears and broke theirs fingers). Mary also pardoned Jane Grey for the throne debacle and only out her to death when Jane's father, Henry Grey, started a rebellion (as well as her future husband Philip becoming nervous that there was a claimant to the English throne still alive). I feel sorry for the way Mary was treated as a child and also for her phantom pregnancies. I just don't know why a) she was so brutal and b) why she is infamous given her father and sister were much worse.
ОтветитьCrazy that these heretics didn't just repent. They were all born Catholic and converted to the English cult when the fat king invented it, less than 20 years before the reign of Mary. They couldn't have genuinely believed in it, they knew first hand that it was made up.
ОтветитьAs a catholic, I would’ve loved Catholicism to be restored but she went about it the wrong way. Better name for her would’ve been flaming Mary
ОтветитьQueen Mary I was a murderer. Only God can determine life and death. She was a murderer no more no less.
ОтветитьWhat a heartbreaking tragedy. Those burning at the stake is such a horror to even imagine. And those personal.accounts!! Oh my. Mary doesn't deserve her bad name, because many men before and after her killed far more...but they're men. Plain and simple. And you sir, are a fascinating storyteller. I love your channel.
ОтветитьThis is all a good reason why religion is such a cancer of this planet.
ОтветитьNot a baaarrrstarrrrd, eh? The poor cow!
ОтветитьWhy isn’t Richard II called Bloody Richard he killed literally anyone and everyone. He was brutal. Have you done a video about him yet? If not you should.
ОтветитьTerrible fate. If there is a Hell, Mary is in it now.
ОтветитьI think she earned the name. Her father was a sick old dude, but at least beheading was relatively quick. But burning people alive because they worshipped the same diety as you but in a different manner? That's disgusting.
Ответитьwill you be doing a halloween special i think that would be brilliant if you did
ОтветитьFirst queen of England, crowned.
ОтветитьI live in Barnet, a truly lovely town, where in 1555 one William Haile was burned alive in the churchyard for being a faithful Protestant. Bloody Bonner was the bishop of London and it is allegedly at his behest that this dreadful deed was carried out. William was an Essex man and it is said he was burned in Barnet as a warning to others. I completely agree that such appalling punishment was beyond unnecessary. It is but a few generations separating us from this savagery.
Ответить👑🇬🇧🩸☠️
ОтветитьIt was the Protestant rulers that murdered and burned priests and citizens!!!
ОтветитьMary went a little crazy, in part no doubt to her upbringing and her treatment by her father. He was a monster. I think she was avenging her mother with all the burnings.
ОтветитьI think she deserved the title, Bloody Mary.
ОтветитьWe have to many witches today.
ОтветитьI just wanted you to know I love your channel Kevin!!!
Ответитьshe is why we should never allow Catholics to hold high office an especially the crown.
ОтветитьA historian who doesn't immediately side with the Catholics and actually has a balanced view. That's really rare. I've heard all sorts of excuses, including that Protestant martyrs actually deserved to be burned - from some Catholics in the modern era.
ОтветитьNew to your channel. I think your videos are top notch. No need for sound effects or video effects. A salt of the earth storyteller. Keep up the good work.
ОтветитьLove your take on history
Ответитьbrutal stories wow
ОтветитьCrikey.. the further you go back in history the Harsher it gets. 🔥
ОтветитьShe may not have killed as many as other monarchs but bloody hell she did it in the sickest most cruel way hence why she earned the nickname
ОтветитьPeritone Massey
ОтветитьOf course this is horrible - every bit as horrible as Elizabeth I and what she did to Catholics. Horror is horror. Religion is neither good or bad because of what was done in its name. BTW, how many people did Elizabeth murder just as barbariously?
ОтветитьHow many catholics did Henry and Elizabeth kill? Mary is less bloody compared to her Protestant family.
Ответить❤
ОтветитьPeople get pretty touchy when it comes to religion.
ОтветитьGod bless Queen Mary. The cards were stacked against her. Her biggest mistake was marrying the Spanish prince. Foxe's book does not hold up to modern scholarly scrutiny, research it.
ОтветитьTerribly barbaric times for sure
ОтветитьI do think that Queen Mary deserved her title of "Bloody Mary". Even by medieval standards, burning alive was pretty dammed vicious and vindictive. That being said, I also think that Mary may well not have been entirely sane by the time she came to the throne. She had suffered a lot by that time and for many years, and I would not be surprised it it turned her into a bit of a psychopath, with an attitude of "paying back" everyone who defied her, even people who had done her, personally, no harm. After decades of being powerless, she no had the ultimate power, and she was determined to use it and to show everybody who was now on top of the heap. And power corrupts. Unfortunately, it is often true that monsters are not born, but made.
ОтветитьThe models you make are fantastic. Your clothes, the walls everything. It makes your great story telling so much the better for it.
Ответить"Religion Poisons Everything"
C Hitchens..
What about all the English Catholic martyrs who suffered ten fold.
ОтветитьThere were a lot more "bloody" Monarchs than Queen Queen Mary I.
ОтветитьI am a descendant of John Rogers. This is an eye opening video which brings to light the horror of Mary's reign.
ОтветитьAll this torture and death because of "religion."
ОтветитьMary the red, a true servant of hell. For her there was no heven, only stright down to hell.
ОтветитьMost people died from the smoke inhalation and not the fire fyi.
ОтветитьHi Tommy, to be fair, they did burn each other.
ОтветитьI so much appreciate your sense of humor, and the clarity and detail when you share some of your learning.
ОтветитьThey were both tyrants, Mary and her father. Like father like daughter I suppose. But this was a tyrannical age... Life was cheap- even disposable. And power, oh power, it was supreme.
Look at the sackings of the Holy Lands- by both sides! How many died there? Look at the row over Martin Luther... The list is practically endless. The funny thing was that for the most part, life was not about wars. The idea that it was is sensationalized. There were large parts of Europe where peace reigned for quite some time. And even the nations at war fought localized battles. So for the most part, if you were not drafted, you could live in peace.
Lord above but were those people brave. I'm not a protestant myself, but I've nothing but respect for their dedication and resolve - I can't begin to imagine what they suffered
ОтветитьMary Tudor as queen, didn't execute nearly as many people as her father, Henry the 8th. Supposedly Elizabeth the 1st had more people executed than Mary. But no, I don't believe Mary deserved the title, Bloody Mary any more than Henry definitely.
ОтветитьOh she definitely deserves her title bloody. Nowhere in the Bible she supposedly followed does it say to do anything like this quite the contrary.
