Mr. Carrie is excellent and so are these videos. However I would hate to pay these prices and have someone next to me quite so greedy as it looks on video.

I bought a slab of 32gm x4 steel to try after watching this video. I use a side-by-side and have shot 1 1/4 x4 lead through it for geese for 40 years but the steel shot I found to be a punishing round - the trigger guard has bruised my 2nd finger after a pigeon session using two boxes. I suspect the steel needs a higher pressure/velocity to maintain effectiveness down-range and 32gm is the top useable load. Bigger shot should really require a slightly heavier load and I was surprised in the gunshops that there aren't any steel available for a 70mm gun with a 34 or 36gm load. I 've replenished my stock of 34gm x5 G.D. Pigeons.

No waterfowl can be hunted in the USA with lead shoot. Sorry to say I gave up hunting several years ago for for trap and skeet shooting. 🇺🇸🐻

Nice to see this film. Happy also this may gain some trust to many shooters. We've been shooting steel for many years now in the Netherlands. Gamebore is a superb factory. I hunt with a 20b with a load of max 24gr. We shoot geese and foxes without any problem. When the transition is a fact, I'm sure you'll all fall in love with the cartridges. Greetings from Holland

for 2 week's , just in time to watch your tutorial and it's another good yes yes steel is taking over. Here in the States we have been using steel shot for along time. I wish I could get Game Bore steel. I can get GameBore lead love GB shells.
Keep up the wonderful work.
Love the sound track music

Those 32 gram 3's work very well for me; and again keep that message coming, we are better judges than most when it comes to ethical food, and when we need to move forward, there will be better solutions because we are not just thinking of ourselves but those who we want to have the chance to follow.

For an excellent synopsis of the effectiveness of steel for hunting I suggest: Randy Wakeman "Steel, lead and the rule of three for shotshells". Based on scientific tests " Lead has over 47% more leathal range than faster (1500fps) steel"
There is no rational evidencce that further developement of steel shotshells will approximate the effectiveness of lead. I have hunted waterfowl for over 60 years, 30+ with lead and 30+ with steel. Mr Wakemans article reflects my experience.

Giving any concessions to these anti shooting fanatics is a big mistake. Nothing you give them will ever be enough. They want shooting banned so they'll just keep coming back for more. Complete waste of time.

does the pricked steel birds recover like they can with lead ? I dont mind having alternatives to lead either, but people are still drinking from lead pipes everyday and i dont see a campaign to get that sorted if leads a massive issue.

I have been shooting steel for game for two years now , initially Gamebore super steel 32 gr 4 and this year Gamebore dark storm steel with the bio wad in 32gr 4 . i shoot a side x side and have not noticed any real difference from lead , i think a lot of the perceived issues with steel are in our heads that it will not work as well as lead but it does . i shoot improved cyl and half choke all the time . if we all just got on with shooting steel it takes away the "you are putting lead in the food chain argument "that we have all heard . well done Mr Carrie .

Did your cartridge measure 65 or 70 millimeters??? Try a 70 mm #6 for partridges and a 70 mm #4 for pheasants. And use a 5/8 or improved modified choke. Think you will be happy with the results.

I like the Federal Premium TSS because you can put it through a full choke, and you can take down a big tom turkey with a .410.

There is no way that the birds were 60 to 70 yds high. I have shot every type of shooting, inc- wigeon with an 8bore where in the 80,s I shot some at Holy island that were that high with 2 1/2 oz lead 1,s. Now I will only shoot to a maximum of 40yds with steel 2,s . SO please stop stretching the range of steel.

It isn't about our health, they wish to constrict our rights more and more and people comply in the hope that they'll be allowed to continue to shoot and own guns but its feeding the crocodile hoping that it won't eat you, unfortunately sooner or later you will run out of food and the crocodile will turn on you. They already took our firearms in regards to home defense and personal carry, sporting leisure and game hunting will be next. They already want us eating bugs and vegetables and so what need will you have for firearms and hunting birds. We shouldn't need a reason to shoot even beyond the enjoyment of it, its our right.

I must honestly admit that sometimes It is soltimer a little hard for me to understand the big discussions concerning lead vs. steel shot. Lead shot has been illegal to use in Denmark since 1996 and we have used many of the same cartridge suppliers as England, for example Gamebore. When Denmark switched from lead shot to steel, there was to start with only 1 type to choose from and they were a significant deterioration. Therefore, with so many supplier’s and alternatives it makes me wonder “why is this such a difficult transition for the British?”

A bit of lead wont hurt ya , I've swallowed plenty of it over the years , a freind of mine has a few no6 in his leg from a little Ferreting accident back in the mid eighties and hes still alive
But nevertheless your doing your best for the future of shooting mate , well done 👍

Very interesting. You have rather confined what I thought. You don’t need to go above 32gr to shoot game and I suspect for the majority 30gr 4/5 steel will be more than adequate. When using steel on those high birds what chokes were you using??

Hello Dave, i assume you have used the gamebore precision steel 32 nr. 3 with biowad 1490 fps ? It is a pity you did not show us the packing of the cartridges so that we could see what you were using. In the netherlands it is already now for the last 30 years that it is compulsery to shoot a lead altenative so we have a fair amount of experience about the difference between lead and steel, the best gamebore cartridge we can buy over here is a 32 gram 3&4 mixed cartridge, they are only produced by gamebore for the Benelux.they are just as good as the cartridge you have tested only much cheaper, that is because they still use plastic wads in them, by the way that will be the next ban in the EU i think ! Do you use 30 or 32 inch barrels on your guns ? Bye for now Marcus

Excellent film and shooting! And nice to see an open attitude towards steel shot and someone actually capable of putting the cartridges to the test doing exactly that! I dont know if you can share, but what is the muzzle velocity of the steel 3's you used ? Also i guess the shot size are british numbers, which means that a british 3 is actually closer to a continental 4 size?

Great Video, please change the narrative. Part of the reason we are in this mess is the use of the word "toxic" NO stop it. The shot is "lead" or "lead alternative" you must stop saying "non toxic". I am interested to hear if the rumours are true in that many European countries have found that steel is causing issues within food. Many countries are looking to move back to lead for this reason? Also I understand that Xray machines can't pick up steel in the body (unlike lead) if digested. I think maybe this time the shooting community has "rolled over too soon". Thanks again Dave.

Well done David you showed you can shoot sporting birds with none toxic 👍 and if it’s better for the environment that’s all that matters.

The potential for food industry to be able to remove steel shot from game, and market it to consumers as a free range product that’s had a more natural life than mass produced chickens could be shootings saving grace in the publics eye.

Can you please give a insight into how you practice for your game shooting season, as I am sure a lot of shooters think you are just gifted with the ability to shoot so well . I don’t think some shooters practice enough before shooting live game and would benefit from some simulated game days which a lot of shoots now offer in the close season.
