How about if I have an O-A visa?
Do I still need an onward ticket?

I thought air carriers were fined heavily by the government if they allowed foreign tourists to fly in without a onward ticket, hence that is the reason the airlines require it.

If you don't need an outbound ticket, then what is to stop someone from buying a 2 week insurance policy and staying much longer?

According to a google search this week about 62% of the world's people have had 1 covid shot. Searching for the number that have had 2 such shots making them full vaccinated in the eyes of Thailand gives a range from 30% to about 50%. Assuming the high number of 50% that means 50% of the world's population can not enter Thailand without quarantine for some period at the travelers expense. Once you add in the mandatory PCR test and 1 night at an approved hotel, mandatory medical insurance including covid with a financial minimum coverage of $20,000. Is Thailand going to be abel to compete with other beach resort countries with reduced or no requirements except a passport with at least 30 days validity remaining after the final day in that country?

How does not having a return flight affe t buying the Covid insurance? If a traveller wants to go for 30 beyond days Visa exemption but has a one way ticket knowing that it will be extended, do you buy a one month insurance or have to buy a full year?

Five years ago I came on a visa-on-arrival with a one-way air ticket the airline refused to board me, but I kept telling them I was going to Thailand to apply for my retirement Visa. Finally the airline ask me the question to I have a Thailand address or bank account I was able to give both so they allowed me to get on the plane without a return ticket

Since 1991, I have entered Thailand about 75 times. Usually on the 30 day (formerly 15 day) visa exemption; occasionally on a 2 month tourist visa and once with an extended stay of about 5 years - employment and education.

Only twice did I have the slightest difficulty --- once at LAX, when the airline wanted to see an onward ticket (at the time I did have a 2 month Tourist Visa) and once in Nong Khai following a Lao visa run (I was working part time in Khon Kaen). I was able get by both times with a warning. Other than those two times, no problem, mai pen rai, bo pen yang (maa jak issan) (:

OKAY - to make a long dull post even longer - BEN, Question: Do you think we will ever return to the old days when you show up at the airport, get the passport stamped, bliss out because you're back in beloved Siam and then go about your business and as long as you don't make trouble and stay off the radar, you're OK? ... or are those days "Gone With the Monsoon?

What I would like to know is why you cant get a straight 3 month visa rather than 60 days and then extend by 30 days once there?
Not talking about the STV which is supposed to cease in Sept 2022.

Last time I flew to BKK, bought an open-ended-no return date RT ticket w/China Airways from California. At the airport, China Air wouldn't let me board the plane from California to BKK w/out a Thai visa and/or exact return date?! Strange. Have always done this way, booking a return date somewhere during, or towards the end of my stay in Thailand...Later, ended up being a huge hassle trying to get a return flight date incl going to the main offices of C.Air in BKK.
